News Article: UA License Plate Redesigned

I personally like the current one better, but maybe once I see a new one in person I'll change my mind.... But then again who cares as long as you are supporting the Tide and everyone else on the road knows that.

I wish I could get one, but I never see the state of Florida issuing Alabama tags...... Although I look for the Tebow tag to come out next year! LOL

I got mine last week... it's much better than anything else on the road.

I haven't seen it in person, but I'll check it out. I like my current one actually, but then I liked the one before it also. You have to admit any tag that has ROLL TIDE ROLL on it is pretty awesome.

These certainly look better than the Alabama Tags over here in Georgia. They would only put the lettering as starting with RT. Such as "RT0000".

I guess that's why we all have opinions, because I could not disagree with you more. Who designed this last tag anyway? It's kind of cartoon'ish and cheap looking to me, looks like it was made in Opelika, Al. :conf2:

It's obvious to me but it's just my opinion and everyone has one.

This thread is funny and lends credence to the joke about Alabama fans:

Q: How many Alabama fans does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Five. One to change the bulb and four to stand around and talk about how great the old one was.

When the current (elephant in the background) tag came out the hue and cry was deafening. Nobody liked it. The elephant has an earring. You can't tell what it is. It looks like the tag is dirty. The elephant is hokey. He's too big. He's too dark. He's too light. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Now the old one is the best and the new one is again horrible.

For those who don't like the new tag, let's see an alternative. Go ahead. Put it out there for everyone to see. And comment on.

Basket Case is so correct. When the last tag came out the initial response was so negative serious consideration was given to pulling it without using the remaining 5 year's of inventory. The tag agencies were calling from all over the state reporting negative comments from tag buyers. Funny thing though -tag sales jumped 20% almost immediately for the new tag. After trailing the cow college in tag sales for years from the beginning of the tag program, now56% of the tags purchased from the two schools are Alabama tags. The initial inventory of the last tag was intended to last 5 years. It had to be reordered after three years. The jump in tag sales happened even though the background elephant on the tag actually came out much lighter than was intended.
I am willing to bet the new tag also produces an immediate growth in sales. When tags are designed, they have to have a balance between what appeals to those who are fans of the University sports programs as well as those who just want to support the University. This one does a pretty good job of maintaining the balance.
