All 3 UAB fans are talking about Bama needs to play UAB instead of southern Miss and claims we need to keep the money in state. I couldnt get in to the radio program on WJOX, but I feel that UAB needs to play the Nebraskas, Oklahomas and grow up and get their money and bring back to the state. Alabama isnt scared as some of the UAB folks claimed. We have nothing to gain and everything to lose. ALso I bet they would try to play the game at LF and give Bama the crimson jerseys and then petition the NCAA to call it a home game for UAB. They cant fill up the stands and yet are calling us out. I am sorry, UAB needs to be somebody before they call us scared. We have been at every spectrum of the ladder, while UAB has only been at the bottom. Yeah UAB we were at the bottom last year , but we will be Alabama again, you will still be UAB and never been to a bowl. :rolleye2:
One thing that griped at me was that a LSU and UcheaT fan called in and said we needed to play them. Excuse me you dont have an in state rival so you can afford to make those claims. The UT fan passed off UGA , UF and UK as rivals ROFLMAO. uh.... ok and LSU didnt make any claims to having rivalries.
A FSU fan called in and said Bama was chicken if they didnt play UAB, because they played Miami and Florida. I am sorry FSU you had to bring in some tough teams to that lousy league to beef it up. If we played Duke , Wake Forrest and Patty Cake U for our conference then we could afford to play Miami and FSU every year. No for some reason we have to play the likes of LSU , Allbarn, UT , Ark. , UK (chuckles for the UT Fans) and the likes. Plus we play UAB's conference champion every year and usually beat them , and they in turn go on to dominate conference USA. UAB Needs to win conference USA and quit worring about getting attendance from us. I never went to the free ticket promotion that they had to pull to get fannies in the stands. I never heard of Alabama or Auburn giving away 100,000 tickets to get 30k fans. ridiculous.

Why play Em????

It would be stupid to play UAB. It would only give their program prominence to play us. It would help their recruting as well. We would receive zero positives from it. They don't belong on the same field.
:biga:

I think the main reason we don't play UAB in football is due to the fact that if we lost to UAB the embarrassment would be too much to bear. I'm all for playing them, but it would be like giving little brother a chance to knock out big brother and UA isn't going to let that happen.

Why should we give them the recognition and credibilty, plus the financial boost when we're competing with them for the top kids in the state? It's a no-winner for us and a killer deal for them.

Playing UAB would be like fighting a girl. If you win you look like a bully and a wife beater for hitting a girl, but if you lose you look like wus...why bother? There would be no winners here.

Like someone said earlier about this debate...

It's not Alabama's responsibility to make sure UAB's football program is stronger. If we want to give teams like Utah State a nice payout to play us, it's our choice. If we don't want to give teams like UAB a nice payout to play us, it's ALSO our choice.

UAB can have Birmingham and Legion Field. I know we have had a lot of memories there, but I'd take Tuscaloosa and Bryant Denny in a heart beat.

haven't we done enough?

We put Tennessee and Auburn on the national map, brought Georgia Tech along for the ride, created the SEC and even help Florida's rise to fame, and outside of our conference made Southern Mississippi?

How many more 2nd tier schools must we bring up? :rolleye2:

We talk about the Barn having "little brother syndrome" but UAB really is our little sister...the same board governs the UA system (UA, UAB, UAH)...I do not see a football game between UAB and UA happening...and off the top of my head, I can't recall any major university playing its sister school in football very often...maybe there is tho?

This is endless.

Every year they ***** and complain about us not wanting playing them. I almost wish we would schedule them in Tuscaloosa one year when we are back at full strength and hang about 50 on them to shut them the hell up.

It may happen some day; Alabama ended up going to Jerdin-hair to play the barn, so who knows? I agree that its not Alabama's concern whether or not UAB's football program is successful. They really shouldn't have a football program because they can't even afford it.

I believe that UAB fans and other fans are just trying to gain publicity for themselves off the field. Let UAB win six or seven games this year and they will go to a bowl and they will be so excited they will forget about playing us. Personally, I hope they make it because I like to see them do well. But we got more important matters than that to think about. We have got an SEC schedule to tackle! Enough said!!!

to "keep the money in-state".

it's like selling yourself all the candy bars from the fund-raiser at school.

EXACTLY!

What I can't comprehend is "the money DOES stay in the state!!" Hell, where is the game being played?

The money might stay in the state but no money would be brought into the state. The result would be similar to what the Cotton Bowl selection committee chairman said years ago when Houston was possibly going to be the host team for the Dallas New Year'd Day game. The official said, "having Houston in the Cotton Bowl would be a financial disaster. Half their fans would eat at the 7-11 and the other half would try to rob it." Let UAB enjoy their games and fan base in Legion Field. We have better things to do.

I would love to play UAB. I'm of the minority who are Bama fans as well as UAB fans. Don't get me wrong. I'd pull for Bama. I'm a Bama fan first. UAB isn't even close. However, I do attent UAB games when they do not interfere with Bama games. I love it. I love UAB. Again, not as much as Bama or even close to as much. Anyway. If we did play UAB and they won, it would hurt, but deep inside, I'd have a little smirk. That'd be for those, "We're better than everyone." Bama fans that I know are out there. We were 4-9, no matter how you slice it. We were better than 4 teams last year, and that's where we stand right now. I think we'll be much better than we were last year, but we ain't the Bama we used to be....YET.

BamaJ

we single-handedly put the Alabama Polytechnical Institute (that's the barn for you young folks) on the football scene by playing them and bringing them some recognition (although I agree they don't have much recognition but what little they have it's because of Bama)...and that's exactly what UAB wants from us...national recognition...let them earn it on their own...
