I bet the Sugar Bowl committee might have chosen another team if they knew this was going to be the case but I guess Georgia's higher ranking trumped that.

Pretty sure the ranking enforces it. Ultimately, the committee does the choosing for the NY6 bowls.
The reason the Sugar Bowl got Georgia was because the committee put UGA where the Sugar Bowl wanted them.

What Penn State did, condoned, and may as well have advocated publicly was so egregious, so revolting, and so horrible that I have a hard time pulling for them ever (exception: when we need them to beat someone to help Alabama). In that case, Joe Paterno was the tail wagging the dog of the university - and the cold, hard reality is that IF he had wanted to do something about it, he would have.

I find Baylor's situation disgusting for a different reason: this is a school that, publicly at least, is supposed to be some sort of Christian school (a la SMU or TCU) and they let it all just happen.

It will be interesting to see how UGA performs with 13 players missing. But then counting all of our injuries and players sitting out, I think we were down 13 as well.

Georgia has quit and it’s not even the 4th quarter yet? Must be a 2020 thing. 
This reminds of what Coach Saban said about the bowls being given less prominence due to the playoff. The Sugar Bowl used to mean something and it was a great prestige to be in the game. Now, it is often the second-ranked SEC team playing in the Sugar Bowl, and it is seen as a consolation prize.
