It seems that they would take this opportunity to play a home-and-home on each campus. I think they are afraid that people would like it and want to keep it on the campuses.
They have done it before when Jacksonville was renovating in the 90’s. From what I’ve always understood it’s more that Florida wants to keep it in Jacksonville than Georgia. Georgia wants the game on campuses.

Call me old fashioned, but regular season games, especially well into the season, should be played on college campuses. The one-off neutral site games in game 1 is ok, I suppose, but I’d rather see them go away.

I mean sure, but that’s literally how college football works for pretty much every other game. I abhor neutral site games.
Well back then neither Denny Stadium nor Jordan Hare were able to hold huge games. I think the 1999 was the first time we played Tennessee in Tuscaloosa since the 1930’s. Generally speaking I really think the Alabama / Auburn rivalry has died a little bit because of the move to campuses because when the game is in Tuscaloosa it is just a cold quiet morning and an afternoon game, but in Auburn it’s the Super Bowl. There really isn’t any consistency like there was in Birmingham.

Right now I would argue only one rivalry really deserves to stay neutral site and that is the Shootout. That is because there is something truly unique to the setting.

As far as the Cocktail Party… I honestly think they should move it to campuses because there really isn’t anything really unique anymore.

I am with you. I like that we have stopped scheduling that neutral site game to start the season and replaced it with home and home games.
im on the fence with it in some cases. Like i would never want a home and home against teams like USCw, Miami, or GT because they offer nothing when you play them, but getting Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Ohio St is great because of its uniqueness.

I might go to the Tech game, but yeah the game doesn't exactly sound appealing. Who knows if it even gets played. Seems like it has been scheduled before a few times and always gets canceled

There was serious talk about having a Bama vs GT game at the Talladega Speedway. It’s just not a game that will be attractive to either side because Bama fans would view it as a Duke type game. So i think you need some circus sideshow to sell it, and Tech would never settle for a one and Barbecue type agreement that we do for G5 teams.

I need a reason to say I hate neutral site games? I mean, that IS the reason.
Only if you want to engage and promote interesting conversation. I don't doubt there is something ABOUT a home and home that you like better than a neutral site game that is capable of being expressed, but to refuse to do so is either lazy or obstinate. Maybe you like going to Auburn.

so you want to go back to playing at Legion Field? How about the triple option? Leather helmets? The coach wearing a 3 piece suit? All the things are out of date. Neutral site games are pointless now and the take away revenue from the actual city the team is in and gives it to another city.

Legion Field does give the Iron Bowl its name and its character. However i honestly don’t want to have to park on Graymont Ave and in people’s yard in one of the worst parts of Birmingham to see a football game. If the game has to be in Birmingham to keep its name then expand Protective stadium and do it that way.

But again, the Alabama-Auburn game lost some of its appeal and consistency in atmosphere by moving to campuses. Literally you can’t tell the difference between the game being played at BDS from a lesser SEC game being played at BDS. There really is no excitement in or around the stadium. But when it’s played at Auburn it’s a madhouse. It’s why if anyone asks for advice about attending an Iron Bowl as a neutral observer I say “go see it at Auburn” because you really don’t see much of the Hatfields and McCoy type intensity in Tuscaloosa.

I still say Texas and Oklahoma should never move from Dallas because it’s so deeply surrounded in the Texas Fair and they haven’t played on campuses since the 30’s. There is kind of a rich pageantry surrounding it. Unlike others like Arkansas/aTm and Florida/UGA, it isn’t some manufactured excuse to take a vacation. Florida vs Georgia in Jacksonville is more like the IB being in Birmingham in that it was more of an issue with capacity than anything else. However I really don’t see much reason to continue it with how Sanford and Ben Hill have expanded. ATM vs Arkansas in Dallas is purely a project made by Jerry Jones.
