Utah isn't trying to keep the schedule light. They want the challenge, they want the shot at the title.
Quit scheduling out of conference teams like Weber St and Utah St (rival? So what? Utah has their eye on national championships, right?)

In their place, add a strong Big 12 team and a strong SEC team.

Win those games and get the national recognition and respect you desire.

It can be done.

Seriously, why does this question keep getting asked? There are a few fans in the 'Bama camp that are completely ignorant of the situation outside of Alabama.

Utah would jump to the PAC-1 in a heartbeat. They have done everything in their power to lobby for it, the sports fit, the academics fit, the region fits. But they've locked their door and aren't inviting anyone in. It isn't as simple as Utah saying "I think we'll play in the Pac-1 now". You need to be invited.

Utah isn't trying to keep the schedule light. They want the challenge, they want the shot at the title. Our coaching is top notch, we've got great facilities and a great location. If we added inclusion in a BCS conference to our arsenal our recruiting would get even better. Our schemes and coaching are competitive without the "BCS talent" imagine if we could increase our recruiting and our depth.

Utah is a team that could potentially have two Championships this decade if a playoff was in place. That is something that any of the elite college programs would hope for. But a crappy system keeps us out of the running. We'd love the access and inclusion but the system is what it is.

Sorry for the rant. I just get tired of ignorant people saying "just move to a new conference then." It just doesn't work like that.

Okay no reason to be a jack..... about it. I don't live in Salt Lake and don't give two rats .....&S about either conference.

The Utah State game has been legislated in the past. Luckily they are trying to rebuild their program now so they've asked out of a few years with us. They want to schedule some patsies of their own to rebuild some confidence and health in the program.

The Weber State game bugs me. But If I recall correctly we have Texas to thank for that one. They cancelled a home and home contract with us and we had to fill the spot but weren't about to sacrifice a home game to hit the road. Sissy Longhorns!

Why they don't lobby to get into the Pac 10 or some other conference is beyond me.
The Pac 10 refuses to even think about adding anymore teams. Believe me, Boise State and Utah would jump at the chance to be included in the PAC 10. Both have consistantly beat the PAC 10. The best chance that they have is for Boise to join the MWC. With Utah, BYU, Boise, TCU, Colorado State and Air Force, they would be much better than the PAC 10, Big East and probably better than the ACC.

A team with a legitimate claim on two trophies in the past five years is not going to go play money games and have five home games. Our AD has bills to pay too and money games aren't going to equal what a home game would.

However, it is fun to go into the big house and get a check to whip the Wolverines in front of their 100,000+.

Oh quit complaining. It's Utah's own fault. Nobody had ever heard of Utah football until Urban Meyer came along, learned how to recruit nationally, and got out of there as quickly as he could. You spent decades in mediocrity in a crappy conference and never cared that you weren't able to play for the national title. Bugg off.

Sorry to offend but it doesn't matter if you care about West Coast football or not. It seems that members of a usually knowledgable fanbase would understand the structure of the game and conferences.

As I said, it's about priorities. Improving the schedule to earn recognition/respect that you want apparently takes a backseat. So be it. Your fan base just has to recognize that.

At least, you have your excuse lined up.

Meyer is a great coach but he did little to change Utah's recruiting. What he did was with someone else's players, those he did recruit were from areas we were already recruiting. This year's team was almost entirely Whittingham players.

How would you know what we wanted for decades? Utah has spent years as a mediocre team... 'Bama has been there too. Where was Florida before the mid eighties. Teams come on eventually when the University and fans make the committment. But annual championships should not be based on history. It should be based on a season's performance. Utah has had some great seasons this decade but has nothing to show for it.

As for bugging off, I think I'll stay. I've enjoyed the conversations with most of the fans on this site. It is a knowledgeable fanbase and a good place to discuss some football goings-on. I'm sorry if I've offended you and you think I'm a donkey but you aren't exactly being Emily Post.

Oh I understand plenty. I'm sorry if I missed the memo about Utah trying to get into a decent conference.

Well you'll forgive me if I don't like being called ignorant. I don't follow every conference closely. I don't know the comings and goings in Utah or the Mountain West. I was simply saying they should lobby for a chance to move conferences. Obviously they have and have not been successful. If by ignorance you mean I am without knowledge, then fine. In my mind you might as well have called me a (blank) hole. I am ignorant of the Mountain West because I don't care!!! The fact is Utah is a good team, and has been that way for a few years, but up until recently they have been a non-factor. Alabama has had some lean years (about 14 of them, give or take), and I have lived through them. But Bama also has 12 national titles, more bowl wins than anyone, and is in the top 10 in wins all time. Teams irk me that have never made football a priority and then start asking for handouts when they do.

He already said that they scheduled Texas, who dropped the game. They also scheduled Michigan, at Michigan (before their collapse). They also scheduled Oregon State...
Oregon who? West of Texas is WEAK football plain and simple. If you want to become a power and get respect then you have to pay your dues out of conference for several years.

LOL - you remember Oregon State, right? They beat the best team in the history of college football this season...

Oh! The "best team money can buy"! Yeah, I remember. But the fact remains that if they played them 10 times USC wins 7 or 8.

Are you saying your victory over PITT gives you legitimate claim to the 2004 MNC?
Maybe you do need a week at Alta;)

Seriously Bro, we get it. You guys should too. You had an unbelievable year...you went undefeated, you undressed a traditional power in front of a national audience, you think you deserve more recognition and you may very well be right. But you weren't the best team in 2008 and you certainly weren't in 2004. Regardless of your records. And most likely you probably won't EVER be the best team in Div 1.

Look, I want to go on the space shuttle. I know where they launch it from. I pay my taxes. I'm better looking than the other astronauts. Why can't I fly it?

You understand that this is just an opinion, right? You say it like it is a verifiable statement of fact.Is that avatar your picture? ;)
Sure it's an opinion. Do you disagree? Seems no one else did in January '05 and no one else except Tokolosh and Kyle Whittingham in January '09.

The avatar? Yes, that is me. I'm a vision-impaired monkey that has a hard time feeding myself. A very good looking vision-impaired monkey.
