Politics: VP Pick em Thread

Personally, I think Trump should pick Carly as his running mate.

Now you're talkin'!

I could get on board with that, Catfish......yowza!

Jeff Sessions might be a candidate. He knows how Washington works, and he bucked the establishment by endorsing Trump
His name has been mentioned, and he's already on Trump's foreign policy team. He would certainly appeal to the conservative base. I'm not a fan, which probably increases the odds of it happening. ;)

Sessions would be a wise choice in a swing state like Alabama.

There are a lot of Rep senators who would be more than happy to back Sessions for VP. Of course that would take him out of the Senate...
Effectively true if not totally. If elected VP he would preside over the Senate and cast tie breaking votes. Alabama would replace him with another Republican, albeit one with no experience or seniority.

Roy Moore will need a job soon...

I think the only thing stopping that from happening is Moore doesn't want to be a junior senator. So far he's only run for governor and Chief Justice statewide.

One might say he likes to be on top.

Dan Quayle, Al Gore, Dick Cheney, Joe Biden. All were capable to succeed in a time of need.

Yeah, but none of them had anything on Spiro Agnew.

And btw - Cheney assuredly does not belong in that cluster of incompetence. Not only was a representative from Wyoming AND a Defense Secretary, he also held perhaps the most important media job in the White House during (of all times) the FORD administration, where he was Chief of Staff.

We can joke about Cheney's heart issues or even the fact that when he goes hunting with three men, he only comes back with Two and a Half Men........but he was certainly qualified to take over as President should it have happened. In fact, his name came up in the search to oust Quayle in 1992 (along with that of General Powell), and what was stated was that he had good press relations and conservative credentials. If polling would have shown that throwing Quayle overboard would have given Bush a better chance, it probably would have happened.

The problem for the GOP that year was simple - the electorate was fuming at Bush, not Quayle.

Btw - in the 1956 campaign, Jules Witcover reports that Adlai Stevenson preyed on fears of Nixon succeeding Eisenhower, going so far as to say it was PROBABLE that Nixon would be President sometime in the next four years.

"I must say bluntly that every piece of scientific evidence we have, every lesson of history and experience, indicates that a Republican victory tomorrow would mean that Richard Nixon would probably be president of this country within the next four years."
Adlai Stevenson, November 5, 1956 address to the nation on Election Eve

Now.....you can just IMAGINE if those same words came out of the mouth of, say, Marco Rubio about Hillary Clinton (if that were the race)........even as eloquently stated as Stevenson did so (rather than Trump bluntness).......you know FULL WELL the media would erupt into, "Rubio suggested that Hillary is going to DIE!!!!" Heck, Hillary herself got plastered with that suggestion when she invoked the 1968 race (where RFK was murdered) as justification for not withdrawing before the Convention in 2008.

I only bring that up because Nixon was certainly qualified on paper, but he was also viewed as a problem child within the administration from the moment Eisenhower picked him as a running mate solely because Ike needed to carry California.

Remember 2000, when the media suggested the REAL race ought to be between Liebermann and Cheney? I get the hunch the entire nation feels that way about the VP picks this year.

So Judge Moore is another Bill Clinton? Ok.....

My prediction is Sarah Palin, seeing a lot of talk about that today.
