James Brown from the TAMI show - 1964. James and The Flames was the first big time concert I ever saw. 1969 at the North Alabama Fairground in Florence. Didn't understand what I was seeing but it was exciting!

During my first summer break from college (1973) I agreed to stay at a friend's apartment over a garage overlooking the intercoastal waterway here - since been torn down and replaced by a big fancy home - but I digress....he and his girlfriend were going on a brief surf trip to Barbados and needed someone to watch over their dog. Well it was an Irish Setter (not the brightest breed out there) and the place had fleas so I had to bomb it a couple times to get things under control - but the one thing I will always remember is my friend (Frank) had a box of albums including Joni Mitchell's "Blue" which I had never heard and I played it (naturally) and was amazed at how much her songs really had a way of making you think about relationships and how deep one's feelings really can be - whether one is aware of them or not (?)

I always think of that week when I hear this album and it's contents...
