We decided not to visit anyone or host an event this holiday - first time in a while we will not do either. My wife and I have been very busy lately, and lounging at home with mass quantities of good food and a long weekend of football on tv without having to play host is extremely appealing at present.
The menu: While we often fix traditional foods, we always add some extras - usually Vietnamese dishes for obvious reasons. This Thanksgiving we are really mixing it up. We are doing very little traditional and just preparing a range things we like. Because there will only be four of us (and my MIL doesn't eat much), we won't prepare the food all at once. We will do this on a rolling basis (like Lily's college admissions
) and have a new dish created every couple of hours. It will be a day-long updated buffet of gluttony!
Lily requested matzo ball soup, so my wife is home making the stock as we speak. We'll start with that.
Then I'll grill some ribeyes. One of our commercial tenants also owns a butcher shop. If the steaks taste as good as they look, this will be my go-to place to get my carnivore fix going forward.
In the evening we'll steam crab legs and grill skewers of local Mayport shrimp.
And each main course will have a few side dishes. And Lan will make flan for dessert. She's also talked about making pumpkin and apple pies, but I think we'll have a leftovers-refrigerator space crisis even before this plan.
If I'm still conscious by the time the Egg Bowl rolls around it will be a miracle!
Where are you guys going and what will you eat? Hope everyone has a long and happy holiday weekend!
