I've seen alot of people *@%* and moan about the white helmets.

Its part of the Alabama tradition. We had white helmets before Crimson. The white helmets were worn during National Championship years. Its not changing the current uniform, its using a throwback. I know the uniforms are a classic and I love them. But I see no problem with Alabama having a throwback game say against an Arkansas to remember the 62 Sugar Bowl and wearing the white helmets.

I not only see nothing wrong with them, I still see some utility to using them when the opposing team, like Arkansas, for example, has colors very similar to ours...

We certainly wouldn't have to worry about them showing grass stains, would we?

White helmets look cheap, nowadays.
Back in the day, paint was probably too expensive.

Unless of course, Alabama wore them for a throwback game. Then, they would look brilliant and perfect.

Currently, IMO..Nebraska wears the white helmet the best.

If Alabama is playing sound fundamental football with a strong running game, field position kicking, and excellent defense, I don't care if the helmets are pink.

RT!

I really fell in love with those white helmets when MSU wore them once last year. They were really sharp looking.

With a crimson mask on them, they would be so sweet looking. They'll never be as great as the good ol' crimson helmet, but a change of pace now and then is always good.

RTR!

What's wrong with white helmets? Well for one thing, Awbun and the hillbillies both wear them.

Bama is the Crimson Tide. Wear Crimson helmets.

If other teams wear similar colored helmets, make them wear white. Bama wears crimson.

Or if you are CBS, Bama wears maroon.

Thank you, thank you very much.

They look cheap. What, Nebraksa and Penn State wear white helmets currently. I dotn think they look cheap. I got news for you, all helmets looked cheap back then.

So if the 1992 Championship team would have elected to wear white helmets against say Arkansas or Miss State it would have been fine?

The Crimson helmets look more menacing, plus football fans across the nation identify us with the Crimson helmets.

Other teams have to tinker with their uni's to try to attract attention, BAMA doesn't have to.

I really do not care for white helmets b/c they are dog ugly like the M.S.bulldogs. I guess some people have a taste for ugly however...../

I am in the minority on this board when it comes to the uniform situation. I am for some kind of update or change in the uniform in moderation.

I love the current uniform don't get me wrong. I think it should stay the same forever with very little in any changes and be the standard uniform, especially the crimson helmet and white numbers.

I don't think that an alternate away uniform of some sort would take away from the standard classic crimson and white uniforms.

An all white with the white helmet with crimson stripe might look really good. The white jersey could have some sort of crimson pattern on the shoulder pads and down the side of the sleeves. It could also have a crimson pattern that runs down from underneath the arm to the pants. That pattern would flow seamlessly into the pants crimson stripes to a more wide single stripe or tapered stripe might look good.

If you look back at the history of the uniform of the Crimson Tide Football Team the uniform has had quite a few variations over the last 100 plus years.

The only thing that is really constant in life is change. Some changes can be for the better.

Seems like too many people here are missing the point of a couple of threads here.

NOBODY IS PROPOSING WE HAVE A permanent CHANGE IN UNIFORM DESIGN THIS YEAR!!!!!! DOH!!!!!

The sole intent of the latest uniform threads are to generate discussion about having a commemorative game where Alabama would dress FOR ONE GAME ONLY in a historically correct uniform of yesteryear as long as it conforms to the current NCAA standards for safety.

Try sticking to the topics for a change instead of going all over the place.

The white helmet was only one of the several suggestions. The uniform selected for the throwback game should portray some significant period in Alabama's glorious history.

OK, that's my rant for this hour. Carry on with your spot reading.

Wear red and white candy stripe helmets for all I care, as long as we win the blankety-blank game! And as for a throw back game I could care less. Just think how the barners and viles would cackle if we lost a throw back game after all the hoopla. Just ain't worth it to me.

Get back that dominating tradition of winning then propose what ever cranks your tractor.

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!!

The title of the thread is "What is the problem with the white helmets?"

I see maybe one or two posts that do not address this.

My vote would be for the uniform worn in 1966 and to wear it in a season one or two years from now when we have a better shot at another title.

My question for the topic spawned from the posts in the THROWBACK UNIFORM GAME thread someone else posted. So it is in relation as Bayout suggested.
