In Navy communications terminology, your signal quality and legibility are measured on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best. So if someone communicates to you that you are coming across 5X5 or fivers, your message is loud and clear. Spittin nickels is Navy radio slang for coming across fivers. Hopefully, on all of my posts I'll be spittin nickels.... loud and clear. The misspelling is an inside joke that I'll explain at a later date!
