Re: were does m.mustain rate vs. qbs we've already played against?

it's hard to compare them all because they are all so different. All have decent to great mobility, decent to great arm strength, accuracy, etc.

Brennan is the best of the four, IMO. I think he could start for a few SEC teams. However, QBs can be made to look better or worse with who is surrounding him.

Arkansas will have the best RB so far and maybe the best WR we've seen so far. Also, probably the best OL. Not to mention, home-field advantage. However, Mustain is inexperienced.

He'll probably be the second or third best QB we'll have seen thus far behind Colt Brennan of UH IMO. I think you can make the arguement that Nickson is just as dangerous as Mustain is at this point, but Mustain clearly has the higher upside. Neither one of them is on the same level as Brennan though. If we can contain their RBs and force Mustain to beat us, I think he'll make his share of mistakes that ultimately could prove very costly for the Razorbacks.

I think Musty has a great arm but that's about it. I hope monk will be castille's assignment this week and with some help from gilberry on some pass rush we'll be just fine on D. My only worry is ark catching some of our subs out of position in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Great QB but still a freshman. He's still not used to the speed of SEC DB's and will make mistakes. I would say he's middle of the pack at this point but will be playing on Sunday's in 4-years.

Re: were does m.mustain rate vs. qbs we've already played against?

I think Mustain has the biggest upside given a year or two, but at this stage he is dead last. He showed last week against Vandy that he can be easily rattled. Also, I agree with RTO about Arkansas having the best Offensive line, but frankly they haven't shown it yet. They are...so far...wayyyyy underachieving and McFadden hasn't gotten loose yet. Let's hope we can keep that trend going for another week.

I also agree that they have the best receiver we will have seen...he's HUGE, FAST and very dangerous. However, they don't have a lot to counter balance the other side, so I think you'll see Bama double team him by playing man and having a safety over-the-top as support. The problem with that is not having the safety for run support. However, we can also use the strong safety for run support and give the TE to either a linebacker or 5th DB.

Playing QB is like dating,,,,, it's better if you can SEE what you're looking at. What is the best D he has worked against? What will he be able to recognize and properly attack?

Didn't Vandy basically look like they were going to let Mustain beat them rather than McFadden? This sounds so familiar. McFadden is no longer an unknown and teams will be keying on him rather than the freshman quarterback.

Hello, Ken Darby deja vu!

The kid is a freshman. A true freshman at that. I have no doubt this kid will probably get better, but right now he is just beginning. I honestly don't think he has seen a quick SEC defense yet. I thought Vandy was pretty good on D, but Arkansas has not seen our alignments and our team speed yet. I'm like most here, though. I hope we are in the right positions to make the plays.

Roll Tide!!

There's a chance, a chance, that we'll see our secondary look unbeatable this weekend as Mustain tends to lock on to whichever reciever he wants to throw to. Versus Vandy I was able to tell who he was throwing to almost as soon as the ball was snapped. Our secondary has enough speed to make him pay for that if he continues to do that (which he is likely to do - it's a typical 'young' mistake)...

That IS an excellent point, CA.. I noticed that, too, during the Vandy-arky game and I think this is the year we can make it look "easy" IF they even decide to let Mustain throw; however, I think they run, run, run with that big line, and that's the main concern I have in trying to beat them, not so much the passing, BUT if they do try to pass, it's turnover city!!!

If we learn to tackle, I think we can stack up the box and force Mustain to try beating us over the top. Vandy contained Arkansas' run game very well. In fact, I think Vandy outgained the hogs on the ground by about 2-to-1.

I agree 1000% and I bet CJK does, too. I think Coach Kines is salivating to finally get the chance to move 4 guys to the LOS and play his LB's in more run control. It would be a pretty good move even if they didn't have McFadden, but it's a given when you have a back like him. You have to play to stop the run and take your chances with Mustain getting a little freedom within the Secondary.

CA you brought up a GREAT point right there!!! I just watched the Vandy game against Arkansas yesterday after class and I saw that too. Mustain is young with alot of talent but I think Nutt made the bad choice of letting him be the starting quarterback. With the offense they run its pretty much basic they have man come in motion and hand it off to McFadden every play then they playaction off that play which he seems to lock on to a receiver and throw it his direction. He tends to float his balls alot to which can give Dukes time to get over and make a pick. I wouldnt be surprised if we had 2 or more picks in this game. Roll Tide and lets win this and shut the critics up.

I think IF we can take MONK away from the HOGS attack then it becomes McFadden and Mustain's legs, I don't think they can do what Jones did against us! ALTHOUGH we do need to be able to TACKLE!!

Agree but at least McFadden doesn't weigh 290 lbs like the UH RBs......:eek2:
Yeah, but McFadden can probably run circles around that Hawaii RB. Plus, we would have shut that dude down quicker if we were ready for that shovel pass. Personally, I think that Hawaii Offense is better than the Hogs Offense at this point.

Mustain ran pretty much the same offense in high school which puts him a
little ahead of the learning curve, but the best defense he has seen in a start
so far is Vandy, and while Vandy is a scrappy bunch, everything speeds up this
week and I don,t beleive he will be ready for the speed of our defense, and should make alot of mistakes and hopefully he will get frustrated.
