Hi All

Myself and 2 others are coming to town for the Arkansas game to see our young Aussie JW feast on some Razorbacks. Wondering if anyone can PM me with some advice on where to stay for the week?

Thanks, and thanks of course for your support for Jesse. He is loving his Alabama experience to date. We can't wait to see him tackle spring camp.

Do not book with the Microtel Hotels. They will not honor reservations made online. After booking and having a written confirmation they advise the wynham reservation site does not interface with them even though it allows you to book it. They will not honor the reservation.

Hotels in Tuscaloosa book up fast, so if you can't secure a room there, don't despair. It's just a 40-45 minute drive from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa, and there are always plenty of rooms there.

Also be aware that most of the hotels in Tuscaloosa will require a two nights stay.

And I believe the avg cost is $299/night for 2 night minimum. The Marriot off of skyland is a good place if its not booked.

The Best Western off of McFarland is not that bad either. I have stayed there in the past. I tried that whole BHM thing last year and yes the rates are much cheaper, the drive is a killer, especailly after night games. I plan on staying at the Best Western and paying a little more than falling asleep at the wheel like last year, thankfully I was able to stay on the road!

I'm a hotel snob, so anywhere I'd stay in Tuscaloosa is never available during football weekends. I don't mind the drive to B'ham (even after night games), and it gives you so many nicer options. Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, etc.... are usually available with no problem. Good luck and enjoy your visit!

The very best may be the Sheraton, its on Campus and walking distance to everything, and you won't have to find parking. It does however, book far in advance and is likely very pricey. But it is at least looking into.

Its also where the players spend the night before the game.

When they find out who you are you'll have your pick of places to stay. Get a bus and tailgate for the week.

I've stayed in Columbus, MS a couple of times. You can get a decent rate and the drive is no further than B'ham. After the game you can get out of town much quicker with much less traffic. The Holiday Inn there is decent.

Sheraton Capstone
No longer a Sheraton. It's Capstone Hotel, and guys it's full for every football weekend and has been for months. I guess there is always the possibility of a late cancellation, but that's your only hope unless you have connections.

My wife gets rooms for her boss every fall for at least 3 games. I guess she knows who to talk to and when. ;)

Most (if not all) of the people who stay at the Capstone Inn have reserved (and have to pay for) every weekend that there is a home game. We have been lucky enough to get a room there once on a football weekend. The next closest would be the Hampton Inn on Harper Lee Drive, but it is usually booked up as well by people who have reserved it for the whole season.

Our favorite place to stay is the Hilton Garden Inn out on Hollywood near Courtney Drive. There is also a Marriott on Courtney almost next door to the Hilton Garden that is nice.

At the LSU game a couple of years ago, we decided to go at the last minute and could not find a room anywhere. I went on e-bay and bought a room at the LaQuinta off of McFarland. It was okay, but it would not be my first choice. It was a room that an LSU alum had bought as part of a travel package for LSU alumni. He just called the hotel and had the reservation put in my name and I paid him by paypal on ebay. Worked great.

If you really want to stay at the Capstone Inn, you could call them on Friday afternoon to see if they have had a cancellation. They do not have a wait list. Just remember, any room in Tuscaloosa on football weekends falls under special guidelines and you cannot cancel once you book. Even the LaQuinta has a two night minimum and was $250 per night. There are no bargains to be had on game weekends....except maybe the MoonWinx or the Olde English Inn ;-)

Starting to put things in place for our visit. We fly out early Sun morning from BHM, so after gamenight (Arkansas) we will drive up there. Would like to stay in Tuscaloosa ahead of gameday (Wed, Thurs, Fri), but can only find accom for Wed and Thurs night (without spending a fortune). Looks like we'll be door knocking for someone wanting some good Aussie company for the night!

Have you looked at Bessemer, AL? There are some nice hotels on Academy lane, and you're not as far from T-town as B'ham or Hoover. Pretty reasonable even on game weeks.

I almost fell asleep driving on the way back from the San Jose and Penn State games and we stayed in Hoover. You have to also take into account for the post game traffic as well.

i've stayed at the capstone on a few occasions and it was solid. Nice bar area though my rooms were on the small side. Microtel on Veterans was actually solid as well. Decent sized rooms and close to the stadium
