I dont think Gus will get fired... He's doing great job with Auburn. The issues with Auburn not making profit is because of Auburn doing lot of firing and owing lot of people money... I suspect they will be in black soon and making profit.

I think when they went to BCS Championship, they lost money?

...The problem is Title IX. It may be helping young women, but it has destroyed the profitability of almost every athletic department in the US.
One reason I thought the UA women's crew team was a brilliant move. Lots of scholarships, and relative to most major-college sports programs, pretty inexpensive. Not piddly money by any means, but relative to other sports, a comparative bargain.

Firing bad coaches and paying out their contracts increases revenue and profits if you make the right hire - and they did with Gus. That isn't their problem, nor is the insignificant loss in sales in deciding not to allow extra tickets to be sold to rival fans.

THIS x 1000. It's not even really funding the women's programs for which there is student participation demand, like softball, gymnastics and basketball. It is trying to deal with the incorrect presumption that just as many female college students desire to compete in intercollegiate athletics as male college students. It is simply not true at any college of any size, but no college is willing to fight that presumption for fear of being labeled "sexist".

Don't forget lawyers. Folks, whether or not you believe coaches and admin knew about payments to Cam, it is a fact they paid Gordon, Lightfoot and Franklin obscene amounts to go to Indianapolis and walk away with the favorable verdict.

That said, I have to admit that the most cost-effective way to run a program today is probably to have a skeleton compliance crew and lawyers on retainer to threaten the NCAA if they accuse you of anything. I'd be interested to see AU's expenditures on compliance personnel and retained lawyers.

I have no problem with women's sports. No, they don't draw huge crowds for the most part, but nobody gives a hoot about our men's track and swimming teams either.

The problem is you have to equal out the numbers and with 85 football players, that's a lot. In Alabama high schools, boy's soccer and wrestling have a great deal of participation. But none of them can play soccer or wrestle here. But those young girls who grow up dreaming of being on the crew team can live the dream.

They will always have problems selling tickets. There just aren't as many people willing to go to an Auburn game, even when they are having a good year. Even this year, they had a promotion letting Boy Scouts in for free for an early season game. It was a gimme game, but I still would have expected the game to be sold out or close to it. I would expect non season ticket holding fans to jump at the chance to go to a patsy game, even if the tickets were a little pricey, just for the chance to moo in Jordan-Hare.

Who cares about the colleges, What about the fans? Consider the big ticket , big travel expense of being a Bama fan. Just in the last five years buying tickets and traveling to 5 in season kick off bowl games, SEC Championship tickets and travel , 3 BCS national championship tickets and travel. This year maybe an SEC Championship game , 2 national championship games.
Imagine next 2 years when Bama has to go to Dallas twice, SEC championship twice and 4 playoff games in far away cities? It is very expensive to be a Bama fan these days. Very ,very expensive since Nick Saban arrived. I would for once, like to see an article written about the fans, and the cost they have to bear.
