Who is Saban's replacement?

Do you hold it against Sark because he HAD a drinking problem?
I think Sark overcame his problem. I also believe that Lane got over being a young immature jerk. I think the behavior problems of both may have changed under the influence of Coach Saban. I do believe people can change. I used to drink and party, now I haven't touched a drop of alcohol in over 5 years, I think I changed.
I use to drink heavily too, but I would never do things that have been reported about Kiffin. Kiffin's flaws go way beyond some substance abuse. After what transpired at the end of his time here, I think you would have to be a couple of bubbles shy of center to want him.

Well, Saban was staying with the Dolphins. I imagine this is somewhat fluid.

I think he represents an interesting aspect of two ends of the spectrum.

Lanning has shown he can recruit and use the portal well, and unless Alabama can get Sark or Smart (seems unlikely) he's the top guy in terms of recruiting and using the portal, at least in terms of a name that's been thrown around. The flip side is we have no idea if Lanning can build a championship team, or has what it takes to get a team over the finish line.

Dabo is on the other end, the question is if he can still thrive in the portal era. Having said that, we know for a fact that given the players and the staff, he can win a championship (would have been three if Saban didn't get in the way).

Those are the two extremes, but my concern is if you start scratching too many names off the list, you are left with something that's probably not going to be that great. If you can't buy Lanning or Sark away from the respective programs, Smart won't leave his Alma mater, Dabo is detested by a lot of Alabama fans...

What you're left with is really not great in my opinion. We really want to go with a guy that got fired from the Raiders, USC, basically had to be pushed out at Alabama, and left Tennessee? Ouch...

I know how unpopular this opinion is, but I reiterate if it's between Dabo and Kiffin I'd take Dabo in a heartbeat. At least i know he has the ability to win a championship, there would in the least be some hope before the talent dwindles he could have Alabama in contention. Kiffin? He could blow the whole thing up if we get bad Kiffin and I'm not sure he could win it all anyway.

We might be in for a rude awakening. I don't think there are many options left that can keep things going. We might have to go through at least a mini rebuild

You got to think Saban, Byrne, and the admins had a plan. Hopefully they knew Lanning would say no or maybe there wasn’t an offer. Man, I hope this doesn’t turn into a circus.

I saw Ole Miss is Top 5 in the way too early poll.
He’s Good Lane right now?
…and I think he showed maturity in showing Judkins the door.

Aaaaaand this is what I was afraid was about to happen and do not be surprised by the following:

(Kiffin isn't the guy Bama wants to even consider reaching out to)

* Sark says "No thanks"

* Dabo says "No thanks" (as much as most of y'all hate this, they will make a call to him)

* Kalen DeBoer "No thanks"

* Mike Norvell "No thanks"

* Demeco Ryans "I'm flattered but no thanks"

* Kirby Smart "No thanks" as he's laughing hysterically

(Everybody in the room starts to look at each other and panic begins to set in)

Then in a janitor's closet with all the lights out, Byrne calls Kiffin's agent.

An interesting point from a Bama podcast: the 30-day transfer window is an NCAA construct. Enrollment deadline for spring classes at UA is 1/17 so the window is much shorter in reality . Any guys who portal may not be able to enroll at other schools in time for spring practice.

Trust me, I get the concern with Kiffin, but if they let him slip away and you know he'd come running, this has all the signs of being a compete dumpster fire of repeating past mistakes and ending up with someone that will be an epic failure...

Well, he also doesn't have the spotlight on him or hasn't really had it on him so who knows if he really cleaned up his Joey Freshwater act or not.

We might figure it out in 2024, see how he responds with more pressure on him (that's a big key here, he's wilted under pressure before). Likewise, Clemson is not looking so good, does Dabo continue a downward spiral, or pull out of it and prove naysayers wrong?

It would be nice to know wouldn't it? But we won't know, we're guessing and I'd go with a guy that's proven (and would likely be loyal) vs. just hoping a guy stays sober and knows how to win a championship.

If it breaks down like Buzzard's list, sure... you call Kiffin because you have to do something right? Go get the next Mike Price if you have to.

But, I'm just saying, if a Steve Spurrier type if available, you call him first, even if he's not recruiting like he used to.

Even if we get out top choice, it's going to be a circus.
