Who is stepping up or is this being kept tight lipped? Has anyone heard about how Fanning is doing?

Not necessarily a secret but I've been told by more than one person and on more than one occasion that Amari Cooper is going to be BIG TIME; that he's been turning heads since they stepped on the field, and that if the season were to start today, he'd be a serious threat, not only for playing time, but to be a starter.

Also heard that Chris Black isn't too far behind

If yesterday's scrimmage was any indication, Sunseri and Depriest certainly are and also Jesse Williams at NG.

Sunseri has an enormously high football IQ, and I strongly believe that he'll end up one of our decades best leaders before it's through and could play in the NFL. It's just uncanny how he was always around the football or where the action was last year.........as a true freshman!

Agreed. He's got leadership written all over him.

I think some people saw Vinnie as a player who got a scholarship to Alabama all because of his father. If anyone had this as a thought that was quickly put to rest by Vinnie last year. Vinnie's heart, passion for the game, football IQ along with CNS coaching him is going to make him an outstanding football player.

I was one of them. I'm glad he proved me wrong. He is an absolute gamer.

Mack, you've got your sources, so I trust you. However, it seems like every year we hear of one guy that is tearing up the practice field but never see the guy play. Hope to see Cooper and/or Black show their skills this year.

seems that Brandon Gibson was that guy the past 2 seasons. tore it up in spring practices but never duplicated it during the season. some things i dont pay much attention to during the spring. Primarily i watch individual performances. how fast defenders shed blocks, how sharp WR's run routes, how fast defenders break on passes, how well RB's follow blocks, how explosive the OL firing off the snap, etc..

I'm not talking about hype. I'm talking about how coaches and players talk about a guy's performance, which causes us to get excited about the player. When the season comes around, we only see the player during mop up duty.

I get what you mean. That doesn't mean that the other players or coaches are blowing smoke.

I'm realistic about it. As deep as we are at most positions now, they could be superb and not get on the field for 2 years. That doesn't mean that Cooper and Black aren't impressive players.

I think Deandrew White was someone we have heard about the last couple of years under this circumstance. If you don't block, don't know where to line up and run your routes on a consistent basis you are not going to find the field.

I have heard good things about Adrian Hubbard. Could be a budding star. I think Coach Saban is real high on Belue. I have seen a couple of glowing quotes from Coach which is rare for a 1st year guy.

I also think with the staff moving Jesse to NG means they feel good about Fanning and Pagan at DE. I think both can be special.
