Baton Rouge
Has anyone ever been there? I went to the one in Baton Rouge yesterday and was floored by the selection. I was told that all of there fish is 24-36 hours from the ocean to the case.

And they have bison steaks and ground bison also. I want to try that bad.

If you have one close go check it out. You will not be disappointed.

I love bison burgers and steaks. The burger patties are quite affordable and you can find them on the internet. The burger patties also make a good hamburger steak especially if you wrap them in bacon and make a brown onion gravy. The steaks can be pricey and not that great of a deal. Bulk ground bison is also a good buy. I do not care for the sausages finding them too dry and the flavor not to my liking. Just remember that bison does not require the cooking time beef does. Think at least one degree of doneness less for bison.

The Baton Rouge one is great. Though, from my old house on Brightside, it took 1.5 hrs to get theiur and back in traffic. A little expensive, but have great cuts of meat. By far my favorite place to get any food.

I'm in the food biz and I'm not quite sold on this organic trend. Mrs. VJ is.

We have one in Plantation, FL, not far from where we live, and we were there last Saturday. $101 bill and we barely had enough stuff to cover the bottom of the shopping cart.

She bought ribeyes while I stood back and had a massive coronary - the rib eye was $20.99 per pound. For less, we could go to a decent chain steak house, have the meat prepared and served with sides. Regular ground beef - $5.99 per pound. Hell, for $3 a pound less, go ahead and inject some hormones in it and fertilize it.

I noticed the clientele in the store were by and large a hungry looking lot.

VJ was that beef marked Wagyu or Kobi beef? If so it was probably a good deal even if it was grade 3. It may have been grass fed Angus which seems to be all the craze now by the food crazies. You can do as well by buying a show calf or steer at a fair.

Almost all we eat is organic but we share a garden with three families. (we be communists ;) )

I am hearing that the conversion time from non-organic farming / growing to organic is about four years. That's why the stuff is so pricey.

Not sure about the grade of beef, bayou. I will check it out and let you know, even though I swore not to go back in the place.

They put one up in Slabville adjacent to where the uber rich folks live.

Quite impressive store to just tool around in. I wouldn't do my regular shopping there, but I'd expect I could always find a hard-to-find item there.
