Why 3 TE committments?

Iowa offensive tackle Robert Gallery
won the Outland Trophy as the nation's top interior lineman Thursday night. ...

A TE in high school!

Another thing I'd like to add to the subject is this. A player at a certain position coming out of high school then turns out to be All-SEC or All-American at another in college, usually never complain when they're signing their NFL contracts. But, I know theres a Jerry Rice/Walter Payton in all of us, just trying to get out, but that's life.

Need we remind you of last years TE situation we had a back up offensive guard playing tight end due to so many injuries. And the fact that we were so bad there that we had a TE plaining with a cast so catching a pass was nearly impossible. Take the the TE commitments and enjoy them. Maybe next year Coach Shula will consult you first before handing out schloarship offers.

Whammer,

That makes it two years in a row for the Outland Trophy. Last year Rien Long at WSU won it, and he was a TE coming out of high school.

You don't have to be rude man. I just asked and honest question. With only 19 scholarships to give, I thought 3 TE's were a bit much. I know CMS knows what he is doing, do You? RTR.

Yes, I believe they play both ways in HS,and may move to F back as McClain.

I am pretty sure Cornelius "Bisquit" Bennett was a TE coming out of HS.

Bama has three very talented TEs that are committed and a fourth Jeremy Jones that is very interested. A TE is usually big, strong, and relatively fast athletes with good hands. I don't think you can have too many TE recruits. jmho

If I am not mistaken, I think Trent Davidson is also a long snapper-which will be a need for us to address next season. Nothing against Nick Ridings, who had a very good career, but poor snaps contributed to three close losses in 2003. Long snapper is one of the most important skill positions on the team. RTR

don't forget the TE's might be the best athletes on the field a lot of the time, also it's always good to have good TE's...i think our TE play this year was below avg and i just think McCall or Walker will start next year, and also Davidson will be moved to the O-line most likely so the only for sure TE we have right now is Nick Walker, i mean even McCall could move to another position

TE's are well rounded athletes who more than likely can contribute at more than one position. Gives a coaching staff a lot of flexibility.

Kinda like the kids signed as "athletes" who are slotted for one of the "skill" positions. TE's kinda fill the designation of "athlete" regarding the trenches.

also, look at the long list of players who went on to play in the n.f.l. as tight ends.
howard cross,rod rutledge,preston gothard,ozzie,patrick hape,etc;
they were all known for being great blockers. most weren't even tight ends coming out of high school. just my .02

Two reasons:
1. We are a little weak at that position
2. CMS decided that is what is best for the team!
