Why Did You Initially Join TideFans???

I really am a "newbie" because I just got logged in today.

I joined because I enjoy reading these posts, I LOVE Alabama football :BigA: and I just went to my first Bama home game this year and I fell in love with everything. (although the fans could have been louder at times).

Thank you for having this board, for the different points of view, and the support the Team gets.

Welcome...

I joined back around 2000 because some of the guys I work with said this was the best Bama site around, and boy were they right! I've also heard mentioned there is some guy on here from the Bayou that knows something about cooking. Anyone know who that might be? ;) :)

I joined because I had previouslly been a member of Tider Insider and I got tired of paying $36 a year for non-insider info. All the good inside posters were run off by people who flamed them for telling what was really going on behind the scenes (because it wasn't what people didn't want to hear). I joined TF and realized that all the same info was here for free. I also didn't like the message board format...if you asked a question or made a statement about a topic that had been discussed several pages back then you got the "Japanese bombs Pearl Harbor" old news flames...which infuriated me. One more reason, Rodney rubbed me the wrong way a few times. Things may be different now but I'll never go back....I like TF much better.

I was a long time lurker, and decided "what the heck"? I might as well join!

Tidefans has good info on here, varied opinions and discussions on every topic related to my beloved BAMA. and I love the funny posts.

ROLL TIDE ROLL AND........................
BEAT AUBURN BEAT AUBURN BEAT AUBURN !!!!

living on the west coast, this is my only source of Tide info. I'm bombarded with useless 49er and raider articles in the daily paper.

Pro football takes all the sportspage and leaves little for fairly good teams like cal.

lowend, there's not a MDB forum any more because it proved to be totally impossible to moderate. The fact that the pros and cons of the band performance can bring fans to name-calling faster than differences of opinion over the performance of the HC continues to bemuse me...

I started out over at Tidesports. A poster by the name of BJB ran a many of us off. So basically, I was a Tidesports refugee.

Was that by any chance bama jim bob? Anyway, me too...

This site is by far the best I've seen! I like the the variety and reading all the different takes on everything CRIMSON!! ROLL TIDE! :BigA:

Re: New Posters

Hey I am BB !! See how confusing it can get for a new poster :) Nice thread!

I joined because I love the recruiting, this forum, the non sports forum and to get killer recipies on grillin and chillin. This is the best site on the internet IHO.

cheers!
Time out my name is way cooler than yours. You better watch it bud!!!

The funny thing about that group is the majority of the members on Bamafans are still posting on the 'net. I still remember the rule that Dreamland wasn't an allowed topic because it wasn't football.

The bamafans listserve eventually did add a messageboard named RollTideFan.com. However, the guy that started it and managed it ended up changing jobs and finally had no time to deal with it and neither did anyone else on the forum, so it died. I'm not sure if the listserve is still up or not.

I still remember the token Mississippi State fan on there that was just relentlessly and endlessly bashed... usually by his wife (a Bama fan).

Well, that deserves a big ROLL TIDE!!!

1. Started posting during the Dubose debale of Oct. 2000.

2. The only other free board at the time besides BamaMag was al.com's forum. Enough said. No serious discussion of sports. A free-for-all for idiots.

3. It's about the only free site that you can get some good, useful information.

I joined for 2 reasons:

(1) to talk to (type) & listen (read) with other Bama fans, and

(2) because this board has rules, discipline, & administrators who ensure that their rules are followed.

Both are still around...

It wasn't a message board that was added...to be honest, most of those members had been banned from here and went to another forum.

Much in the same way that I'm bemused about how people go nuts when Alabama loses. It is just a game afterall.

Anyway, monetary inflow to the MDB is much like the athletic department: when alums are happy, the cash comes in; when they're not happy, the cash dries up. The MDB is funded to the tune of $500,000 per year by the athletic department -- one of the best band budgets in the country; however, $0 of that money goes toward scholarships. Many groups do much more with much less. It's important that the MDB entertains and makes people want to donate to the MDB Association so that its members can continue to receive scholarships, such as the one I was the beneficiary of.
