Why do we bash the newbies??

Rich... Earle.. correct me if I'm wrong, but here's the formula:
hometown +/- profile +/- positive posts +/- infractions +/- breathalizer results while posting = a person's ranking.

Wait... think I left something out... come to think of it, it's more complicated to explain than the Harris Poll.

you left out $$ donated to tidefans and $$$$ donated to my retirement fund. ;)

If anyone truly wonders why newbies are sometimes given a rough time, please see this thread.

I sincerely doubt there will be any questions after that...

Ok first of all, Hello! My name CrmznApklps, I live in SC. I graduated from Alabama in 98 with my Masters. (96 undergrad) Nice to meet all of you. I realize that I may not have said this in my first post some time ago. If you do not mind I have an opinion that I'd like to add to this thread.

I have read this thread and I agree with the premise of it. I won't say I have been disrespected by some posters, but I have seen it happen with others. As someone has said before, sometimes lurkers read for some time and their first post they feel compelled to make because of their strong opinion.

Reading the thread cited above, it looks as if the "newbie" came in and stated his opinion as was asked for in the initial post. It wan't pretty but it was his opinion. Many disagreed with him, but the first response was someone who called him an Aubie. Now I don't know about some of ya'll, but calling me an Aubie after I spent multiple years at the University of Alabama getting two degrees, would be upsetting. Some have said you have to earn respect and that's what they were taught. My parents taught me that you respect everyone until they do something to lose your respect. IMO, the "newbie" had strong opinons, but calling him names wasn't called for. But we do it all of the time here.

Now how he handled himself after the Aubie crack is debatable, but I don't think he would have gotten so upset if it hadn't been for him being attacked.

And as for the Mods, I understand that this is your "house". I have PM'd one or two of you when I think that someone was treated unfairly and to understand the logic and you have told me there is more going on behind the scenes, I just think that you have to remember that everyone can't see that and might lend to the opinion that newbies are treated a certain way.

ALL of that being said, I do love TF. I read it pretty much everyday and it is much better than the other forums out there. But for this to be a thread (and one that has gone on for 6 or 7 pages) perhaps there is something to the issue.

Roll Tide!

We say we don't play favorites but in a sense we do. Those who have been on tidefans since Al Gore invented the internet do get more of a free pass than someone who joined this year. I might not like everytihing they post but I tend to overlook more of it because I know more about them. Even those I think are dumb as a sack full of hammers I eventually just move along yet a newbie can say basically the same thing and I might rip out both eyes, shove them up his nose and use his tongue to paint my house.
I had a difficult day and your comments bring some welcomed humor.

I think 90% of the people out there dont care. I had a name from 2001 that I deleted b/c of fran :) :) . I look for post quality, not post count...but for some its hard to pass judgement when they have 3 posts and blast the coaching staff. ;)
I've been reading your posts for some time now and enjoy your comments. My preference is to read and digest what everyone has to say, then occasionally chime in on something. I do get frustrated with all the CMS poor mouthing that seems to show up too often. There is a proper method to make a point without resorting to slashing and burning eveything in ones wake.

You make some good points and I think that most of the time newcomers are treated with respect until they do something to merit a loss of it. Those who jump in with both feet bashing the coach or a member of his staff on their 1st post will naturally be looked at with a skeptical eye. Those who introduce themselves and respectfully point out some perceived deficiency with the coach and then explain why they feel that way are taken more seriously. Even rival fans with good-natured jabs are usually treated with a modicum of respect. It's the ones who profess to be Alabama fans and then proceed to denigrate everything about the program who are suspect. It's not my place to say who's a Bama fan and who's not, but if you enter someone's house and the 1st thing you say is their baby's ugly, you probably won't be made very welcome.

Some of you bash the newbies because you are infantile school children who react to any critical post about alabama football at all. You behave like a click in grammer school. If you had any real belief in the Tide you could accept minor criticisms without personally attacking anyone. I also suspect you do so to stop criticism, which seems fairly fascist, and you do it because you cannot think of anything else to say.

These forums are for discussion, if everyone said the same things it would be rather boring. I was asked my opinion on a matter to which I responded. Then I was attacked personally for it and responded in kind. Just grow up.

You are entitled to your opinion, but if you post a controversial opinion, you should expect to be roasted. You are entitled to your opinion, but so is everyone else.

I sometimes decide to skip a thread because I know that what I might say in that thread would not be well received here. You just need to take it a bit slower. Learn the ebb and flow a bit before you jump in over your head. You can be 100% correct and still get banned because of the way that you say something here. But I have learned that the rules that used to bind me too closely are also rules that allow for a far more informative discourse.

This is a great board, and the rules are the main reason for that - along with some very well informed mods & admins...

NYBamaFan,
Thanks for your advice, I respect it. I don't think I can skip posts because someone might not like what I say though. I thought that was the purpose of this forum, open discussion of varying opinions. I also don't mind being roasted with other's opinions backed up by facts. I do not like being attacked peronally for my opinion however. Just as the old adage goes, do unto others.... ROLL TIDE!

Again, NYBamaFan, thanks for your help. :)

Ahhh, but if you post something that you know is not going to be well received, expect emotional responses. Fact of life. Don't talk bad about my Mom - I don't care if you are right or not. Got the idea?

You can say almost anything that you wish (as long as you don't get into personal attacks). But you have to be willing to take some heat and not get into personal duels with those that disagree...

"Cat"

is, at least temporarily, out of commission. I'd throw in here to anyone else who wants to jump in and place nothing but "pot-stirrer" posts - IF you uncheck the "RECEIVE EMAIL FROM ADMIN" box, it's automatic suspension...
