Why Pete Carroll REALLY left USC!

This is an amazing story and a must read for those who believe as most of us do that USC deserves to get slapped for the Reggie Bush stuff!

No doubt there is smoke at USC and that means there must be fire. I looked up Carrolls Bio and he (especially early in his coaching career) changed jobs about as often the tax laws change. From 74-76 he coached at Pacific, in 77 he coached at Arkansas, in 78 he coached at Iowa State, in 79 he coached at Ohio State, in 80-82 he coached a NC State, in 83 he coached back at Pacific. Then he jumped to the Pros and coached in 84 with the Buffalo Bills, in 85-89 he coached with the Minn Vikings, in 90-94 he coached with the Jets, in 95-96 he coached with the 49'ers, in 97-99 he coached the Patriots. Then back to college 00-09 USC and now jump back to the Pros. The USC job is the longest by far he has stayed anywhere. 7 million a yr is a lot of money. Got a feeling that with his history and for that amount of money he would have jumped even if there were not problem with the NCAA. Think Carroll is a perfect example of what Coach Sabans Dad meant when he said "The grass is always greener over the septic tank".

A friend of mine once told me that Carroll cares nothing about academics. It was all about winning and getting guys to the league. The guy is a doucherocket.

Judge issues subpoenas
Carroll to Agent: Get me out of U$C
Agent to NFL General Managers: Carroll is ready to come back to NFL. He wants to get out before the NZAA hammers $C.
Seahawks: We want him, how does $7 million sound?
Agent: Great
Seahawks: Let's interview Leslie Frazier, so we don't break the Rooney Rule
Agent: Ok
Seahawks: Mora, you're fired.
Seahawks: Pete Carroll is our next coach.

I'm a little curious about the timing of some of this (not Carroll's departure, I think the article is spot on on that). Another article said the NCAA's investigation of USC is complete, but the court decision allowing depositions was issued 12/28. I find it extremely doubtful that any depositions have been taken yet and/or for the NCAA investigators to have had access to them. Was the investigation closed prematurely? If some bombs are revealed in later depositions will the NCAA re-open its investigation of USC? Has USC sacrificed basketball to save football and nothing will come of the Bush allegations?

I'm curious as to what the NCAA report says. I wonder if it will be published. Does California have a FOIA type law? If so, is USC subject to it since it is a private university?

Awwww come on now...that's not what really happened is it? ;):biggrin2:

The rats all appear to be jumping off the sinking ship. However, I do feel some pity for the non-paid players who remain and who will take the brunt of the sanctions...:mad2:

The NCAA report will be presented in February and any sanctions wouldn't come out for 6-8 weeks after that, so we won't know anything from this until well after NSD - probably not until after A-Day in fact.

But I think you hit the nail on the head with the dates. The NCAA has announced the end of the investigation before the depositions were allowed by the court - meaning none will be taken by the NCAA. Thus, yet another tiny hand-slapping for a non-SEC program with SERIOUS infractions.

The important thing is that RECRUITS will know about this today! You can bet that any national recruits will be told by other coaches if they are not familiar! The fact is that USC WILL take a hit this time!

ROLL TIDE!
