Will it be depressing now if we end up with Rodriguez or Johnson and not Spurrier?

This situation reminds me of Tim Tebow's recruitment. Many of us (me included) have invested our emotions in Spurrier coming. Initially, I think I will be disappointed with anyone else even if they are a quality hire.

i think i would be dissappointed for about 90 seconds and then euforia would set in.

RR- better than DF, better than BC, better than MP, better than MS, better than RP. Potential to be better than Stallings.

Personally, I would prefer Rodriguez instead of Spurrier, but that's just me.

I would think a lot would, but not everyone understands what makes a good coach....

I would be totally thrilled with Rodriguez or Grobe and really really happy with several others.

I'm amazed at how easily consumed I've been by this. My work production is down at least 50-60% this week. It's amazing how people here in Georgia think they care about their football. I had one Georgia fan tell me today that he now understands how important football is in Alabama.

I never believed Spurrier was coming, so I will not be disappointed at all. I like our chances with some of the more realistic names being tossed around and will be happy with just about any of them.

These days it seems the staff and in particular the coordinators seem to be as important as the head coaching choice. I will be happy with any of the A or B list but only if they truly build a top notch staff top to bottom.

I want our team to be well prepared in all phases and our best available player starting at every position during the 2007 season. Some say our program has become irrelevant in this country. If we can combine a top notch staff with our wonderful crimson blooded student athletes...... instantly "The" University of Alabama will undeniably be very, very relevant.

Here's to the hope of serving crow to the media for Thanksgiving 07 by having capped off a terrific season and being truly "BACK"!

Spurrier has the "wow" factor ... an almost instantaneous restoration of the Bama program to an elite reputation.

But if it turned out to be RR, there are advantages there, too. Younger, perhaps would be hungrier. Plus there is a part of me that would rather have someone who deeply wanted the Bama job, not just someone we threw the bank vault at.

It would be hard to be depressed about getting one of the two or three hottest young coaches in America ... a proven winner at the BCS level.

No, not at all depressing. I've thought all along that SOS was a tremendous long shot for Bama. Rodriguez (at least in my mind) would be a good hire. I like our chances with R.R.

On a positive note; anyone would be an improvement.

OK. Glad to hear so many positive thoughts. With all of the Spurrier talk I think it helps to refocus everyone on what the real goal is....marked improvement. I think there are several ways to get there. We can be successful with several of the coaches mentioned. Just none named Mike!

No, those are my top 2 picks. Why anyone has spent any emotions on Spurrier coming is beyond me. Same as Saban. He will not come here. I think all these rumors of him looking at contracts and everything else is gonna let a lot of people down when, if they would just THINK about it, they should know he is not coming and has no reason to.

Not me. I spent most of the 90's disliking the man for his repeated insults aimed at Bama and quite frankly I am a little surprised at how many people want him in T-town. Yes we would win more games but at what price? I just can't believe it and I fear this may be one more joke on us. I would be happy with Paul Johnson even if it doesn't have the flash of a Spurrier announcement.

I agree. I think most of us dont really expect either Saban or Spurrier to come but it is alot of fun speculating about it, lol. I think Rodriguez will be an excellent head coach if we can get him to come. I am fired up about that possibility. Most logical people on here will be fired up too if it happens.

This has been alot of fun and its still not over. :biggrin2:

Not fun for me. I've gotten ZERO work done this week. I'm neglecting my family and haven't walked my dog in 3 days.

Man I know the feeling.

I would be disappointed if we did not get one of the "S" list guys and would be extremely disappointed if we fall below RR. I just do not think it would be worth it. We need a top notch coach to make this whole thing level out. I'm tired of settling and tired of mediocrity.
