WR Jeremy Richardson Commits To Auburn

Now did I call this one or what? Just yesterday, I said the following:

The funny thing is, Barners are talking about how their staff plans to "respond" in the next few days by releasing a couple of their silent commitments. In other words, they are going to "respond" by getting someone like Jeremy Richardson to go public, i.e. a kid that 'Bama passed over. You just can't make up stuff like this, folks.

And big shock, today, Richardson went public with his commitment to Auburn. Of course, the Auburn people are already playing this one of as a big steal, with most commitment articles saying he picked Auburn over offers from Alabama and LSU. Hello delusions...

Either way, best of luck to Mr. Richardson.

This also puts to bed the whole Sanders/J. Richardson debate. Although I think if Bama is going to go after a tall reciever why not Kyle Prater I think he has opened the door a little for us with his recent top ten which Bama is apart.

That's probably right. I imagine he did have some sort of offer from the schools that were claimed, but I'm also sure that they were conditional offers that would not become commitable until (and unless) those schools missed out on several prospects above him on their board.

In Alabama's case, we might only have room for one more receiver prospect (if Sims stays at WR), and I figure Richardson was probably fifth or sixth on our board at receiver. You do the math on the likelihood of that conditional offer ever turning into a commitable one.

At any rate, though, if you have an offer that's not a commitable offer, then in all reality you don't have anything. It's the same thing as having a winning lottery ticket that the lottery board won't accept... it's a worthless piece of paper.

This one was definitely expected. Like BET says he was down the Bama WR pecking order a good bit and his Bama offer may not have been committable.

Ah, I think so. By this point, I think it's clear that Auburn is going to fight back with anything and everything at their disposal.

The problem, though, is that they just don't have much to fight back with. I do think they fought back a bit today by getting Richardson to go public, but again that's not really saying much. Early on in the process Richardson was a top recruit -- and it was expected to be an Alabama v. Florida battle, to be precise -- but again the top programs cooled on him. By May 1st, though, we had really cooled on him, and even he was admitting as such. At any rate, it's been clear for over a month now that he was Auburn bound, and even if you don't think much of my prediction yesterday, both myself and Trobinson called it the day before yesterday.

Bottom line, fighting back with guys like Richardson really isn't fighting back. They cannot get back at us by getting a guy we never really wanted, it just doesn't work that way. To really fight back, they are going to have to get some kids we legitimately want, and it doesn't look promising on that front right now. We've locked up most of the in-state prospects that we want, and perhaps the only real head-to-head battle left is C.J. Mosley, and most think we will eventually get him.

So, like I said, they are fighting back, but again they really do not have much to fight back with. We have continued our run on the state's top prospects, and when all is said and done they are likely to get only one kid that we wanted, and that is Ladarius Owens. And actually, fighting back or no, Auburn had better be guarding their rear flank with Shun Coleman.

After last season Jeremy was considered the top WR in the state and a top 5 player (4 star last week). Milliner was hon mention all-state and a three star player after the season. What has changed?

Ha, I noticed that suddenly Alabama didn't offer him. That's funny stuff.

This is probably the most talented kid to ever come out of Springville. He has been a heavy lean towards Auburn since the beginning. He's a good kid but he really needs to hit the books hard next year.

Now all the bammers can stop talking about how the Big Cat Weekend didn't do anything

I personally think he is the #1 player in the State of Alabama, other may disagree

I'm not so sure this kid will be playing WR anyway. Seems to me that Richardson is going to be a TE. He is 6'4" 220 (top end WR weight if you ask me) as a junior and is still growing. Richardson is going to be a good player especially with his speed but I think we are taking only 1 TE this year (yes I think Harrison goes elsewhere) and our #1 is Vogler who is a far better prospect and will be committed to us by summer's end by all indications.

BET, what happened? it seemed like this kid was gonna be a stud at first but then his stock just dropped tremendously. it wasn't even football season. was he just mediocre to begin with, being built up by the recruiting services, or did he have bad camp perfomance? or was it just due to both Bama and the gators having so many better options at WR?

I mean, seriously, exactly where else would he have been rationally expected to go besides Auburn? Nevertheless, despite all of that, Auburn fans are spinning this as a major victory for Auburn over Alabama, and as confirmation of the successes of Chizik's recruiting tactics. Again, it's just very obvious that they are looking to declare victory over Alabama in any way they can, regardless of how absurd the circumstances are.

In any event, though, I would like to add that apparently Richardson committed while he was visiting his grandfather at UAB Hospital. Apparently his grandfather, also a lifelong Auburn fan, is in pretty bad condition, and I'd like to wish him the best in his recovery. Auburn fans are reacting like imbeciles, as expected, but nevertheless Jeremy and his family seem like class acts. I wish them the best, and also a speedy recovery to his grandfather as well. Hopefully he can get to doing better and be able to go see his grandson play big-time college football in the SEC. I know that's got to be a once-in-a-lifetime feeling for what must be a very proud grandpa right now.
