Which one of these carries Alabama sports? Also, do any of you know if they carry the carolina gamecock games as well as duke blue devils..more importantly Duke Blue Devil Basketball games. And one more question, for those who have it do they have the pre-game and post game shows? Or, is it just specifically the games that they play?

do u know if that is going to change, is the SEC or Alabama planning a switch to XM? Also, does it carry the pre-game and post game shows?
I have had XM for 2 years. At first, they didn't have any SEC, but during the off-season last year, they added two SEC channels. This season, they usually picked up the biggest 3-4 SEC games every week and broadcast them, along with the home team's local pre-game and post-game shows. I have no idea how the bowl schedule will be handled.

I must say that as an SEC fan, I feel let down by XM's SEC coverage, but overall, I am satisfied with their programming. I mostly listen to ESPN Radio and Fox Sports Radio channels throughout the day. They are interesting shows, but sometimes I tire of the over-coverage of NFL. Was thinking yesterday how they should further segment the market to have a channel that focuses more on college.

The SEC already has a contract with XM, but the schools are not forced to go with it. Alabama's contract with Sirius is up in 2008. If the XM/Sirius merger is not done by then, I would expect to see a move to XM in order to tie in with the marketing of XM as the SEC provider. But at this point, nothing is set in stone.

It has nothing to do with how big the games are. XM has contracts with 7 SEC schools to broadcast their games, and those are the ones they carry. Two more schools have already agreed to be added in the next 2 years as well.

A couple of weeks back, I called Tom Roberts at the Crimson Tide Sports Network and asked him "If I were a Bama fan looking to get Satellite Radio at Christmas, which one should I go with?"

He informed me that the negotiations were on the table currently with both providers and if he were a Bama fan looking to buy one, he would wait until his birthday before getting either:).

My impression is that it is not leaning one way or the other. I myself have XM and love it. Only downside is not having Bama on there right now.

I gave Tom my vote and he said it has to be finalized by the end of this school year.(May 08)

Again, if the merger goes through, this is a moot point, except I really don't expect to see that happening from prior FCC rulings:frown:

I have XM and love it. I was on a road trip over Iron Bowl weekend, and while driving, I listened to UK-UT, then back to FSU-UF and also GT-UGA. Without XM, I would have only been able to get the GT-UGA game. Bama is coming to it soon, so it will totaly be worth it. Also BCS is on it this year, I beleive. Big 10, Pac 10, Big 12. XM is the way to go.
So all the LSU fans should get XM so they can follow Les and big blue next year!

I have Sirius Radio and love it. I don't know what XM is like I've never had it but I guess if I had XM and never had Sirius I would love it! Now the problem is I bought Sirius a couple of years ago to beable to catch the Alabama games, now they want to switch and let XM carry the so called contracts. What the heck!!! So, if I want to catch the game I will have to cancel my subscription with Sirius and go out and buy an new radio and start a new subscription with XM...GREAT!!! :banghead:
My suggeston if you are planning on getting a satilite radio...Wait until the FCC gives Sirius the ok to buy out XM then it want matter (and it is Sirius that is the bigger player here not XM) or go ahead and make the choice now to buy both Sirius and XM because they will continue to flip flop the contracts and at least you can drop the service and go with whom ever has the games you want to catch. :icon_bs: :cuss:

I currently have Sirius. I got all the Bama games, most of the pregames, and most of the postgames. Sometimes I would only get 15 minutes or so of the pregame.

Who knows who will carry Bama in the future, but for this last year Sirius has done a great job.

I have Sirius (and got it specifically for Bama football) but actually hate the music on most of the stations. On the other hand I have DirecTV and therefore my music channels are XM and love them. Given that XM and Sirius have completed their agreed merger I am thinking that Tom Roberts was being a tight lip'd, but woudl guess that those papers whether ratified by congress or not would nullify any pre-existing negotions. In other words I would advise as Tom has to do NOTHING yet. I know you may want this for Christmas, but your best bet is to wait. It is my personal guess that the FCC will NOT allow this merger to be completed for reasons discussed numerous times on this board and I am sure others. However, I think was Tom was saying or not saying is that he and the power brokers feel the same way and that they are negotiating with both companies to air ALL SEC games.

This is not very different from the BigTenTV or SECTV deal. The conferences are looking to cash in on every available piece of marketing and by being forced to stick with one or the other, are losing about 50% of their marketshare. Not good business. I also think that the SEC is big enough to force their hands. That just MPO.,

I have a factory XM in my Accord. I have listened to the KY vs UGA and Arky vs LSU games while driving. I found Arky's radio crew to be entertaining. I tried to get the MSU vs Ole Miss game, but I was too late, they had the MSU network's post game on, I was having flashbacks of the shuttle in Starkville after the loss and I tuned out quickly.

I've been with Sirius since 2004 and really like it. That was the first season they carried Bama football and it was funny how sometimes kickoff time would approach and they hadn't switched from regular programming to the game. I would literally call Sirius, tell them about it, and within a minute the game would be on. (They've gotten better about that since.)

The pre- and post-game coverage is a little spotty. Sometimes you get an hour of CTSN both before and after the game, sometimes less, and sometimes none at all. It depends on their schedule of other games, if games run late, etc.

If you do get Sirius (or XM, for that matter) plug-and-play unit, make sure to get one that fits into a portable boombox, and get the boombox if you tailgate regularly. I have one and really enjoy listening to the other games or scoreboard shows as we tailgate (especially if Barn or UT is getting beat!).
