Year in, year out expectations for Alabama?

Given the national publicity our coaching search has gotten and the numerous accusations by rival teams and sports commentators of "unrealistic expectations" at Alabama, I thought I would ask most of you what you really expect from the football team, year in and year out. I'll give my expectations and y'all tell me what you think:

- no less than 3rd in the SEC West
- tough at home
- solid tackling
- few penalties
- touchdowns ( a by product of the last 4 years ;) )
- contend for the SEC championship at least once every 5 years, and when the stars and planets align correctly, a BCS berth and National Championship.

Are those unrealistic?

You, my friend are an Alabama fan...You should expect to win it all every year. haha

Nah, those are very reasonable expectations IMO.

They are unrealistic because they aren't high enough. Contend every 5 years? That's the way it's been the last 10 years anyway, so what's the difference?

I say I expect to contend every year, with a down year expected once every decade, which is reasonable with most top tier programs.

If you set your expectations low, you'll never get to where you need to be. . .

My expectations for a 10 year span:

Compete for the West 80% of the time
Compete for the SEC 70% of the time
Win at least two NCs
Finish in the top 5 nationally 50% of the time
Finish in the top 10 nationally 70% of the time
Finish in the top 25 nationally 100% of the time

I say this realizing that it is next to impossible for any team to completely dominate like we used to. Also, I don't know if I'd call these "expectations" as much as I'd call them "wishes".

I think it will be hard for an SEC team to be considered "top tier" anymore. Look at the current situation this year: the best "win-loss" SEC is Florida and they get absolutely no respect from the national media. It's like they voted them No. 4 in the country because they had to. The "most talented" SEC team, LSU, sits with 2 losses, and were it not from their fan's rabid response in ticket sales, might have been left out of the BCS picture. I'm not sure SEC teams can consistently stay in the hunt for a MNC with 8 conference games and a title game, it's just too many opportunities to be defeated or have your schedule questioned during a down year in the conference.

Win'em all, of course This is ALABAMA, where we have won'em all more than anyone else. 3rd most wins, 3rd best winning percentage, most Bowls, most Bowl wins, most SEC titles, most National titles.

So why shouldn't we expect to win year in and year out?

ROLL TIDE!! :BigA:
