FYI - 9 of the 32 picks in the 1st round this year were 3 stars. 1 was a 2 start and 2 were not ranked. Only 5 were 5 stars. You can win with lesser recruits if you can develop and coach them up.

Please don't respond that you need good recruits to win games. I know that.

It has to be more than 5 5*. Where did you get the number?
All 3 Alabama players, who were selected, were 5* recruits.

247 definitely shows more than 5 5*. In addition to Alabama players, I can see Williams, Maye, Mims, in addition to 3 Alabama players. So, at least 6, but I’ve only briefly looked at the names, so could be more.

In-state IOL Mal Waldrep has us in his top 4. He is rated a 3* now but his offer list says otherwise. He is a legacy but don't remember a Waldrep at Bama.

Misunderstood the legacy part. His grandfather played for Clemson in the 60's and he seems to be pushing him to Clemson. We will see what happens.

247 article about recruits & 1st round:

7 5*. All juniors
15 4*. Some juniors, some seniors
3* are either seniors or senior citizens, like Penix, who has started his college career in 2018 (COVID effect)

Not a single 3* junior was drafted in the 1st round.

Bottom line: ratings matter. Of course, there were some 5* busts (e.g. Brockermeyer), but not a single 3* junior was drafted, meaning that rating agencies were correct, when marked them as “projects” and some of them were late bloomers and developed into good players.

I got it from here. I didn't make it up.

One is 247Sports and one is Rivals and they are going to differ but 247Sports is better at what they do than Rivals IMO. I would have expected the results to be more in line with what 247 reported.
The fact that Rivals had more of the guys in the first round rated as 5 star, would seem to indicate they are indeed better at rating than Rivals.

It was the other way around. Rivals had less 5* in the first round than 247; thus, confirming that 247 has better ratings
