STARKVILLE, MS –
Alabama baseball suffered an 8-1 loss to 16th-ranked Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs clinched the series with the victory while the 17th-ranked Crimson Tide moved to 28-18 overall and 9-14 in Southeastern Conference action.

Alabama was first to strike on Saturday thanks to a solo homer from Max Grant in the third. State came right back with three runs in the home half of that frame to take the lead for good. The Bulldogs added one more in the fourth to go with a pair of runs in both the sixth and eighth innings for the 8-1 victory.

Jurrangelo Cijntje (7-1) picked up the win with 7.0 innings of one run baseball, giving up seven hits to go with eight strikeouts. Zane Adams (4-3) suffered the loss despite a solid start. The freshman allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts across his 5.0 innings of work.

From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"Our team fought their butts off today. We told them postgame that we were just extremely proud and appreciative of their effort out there. We competed all game with a really good Mississippi State team but playing on the road with the limited pieces that we had, we just weren't able to get it done."

How It Happened
  • T3 | Max Grant hit a solo homer to center to lead off the inning. (1-0, Alabama)
  • B3 | A leadoff double followed by a two-out single tied things up, before a two-run homer off the bat of David Mershon gave State the lead. (3-1, Mississippi State)
  • B4 | A leadoff walk followed by a wild pitch and an error to put the man at third before a sacrifice fly plated a run for MSU. (4-1, Mississippi State)
  • B6 | The Bulldogs added one run apiece on a one-out single followed later by a two-out single. (6-1, Mississippi State)
  • B8 | A solo homer with one down from Logan Kohler started the scoring. The Bulldogs then drew a two-out walk followed by an RBI-double to widen the gap. (8-1, Mississippi State)
Postgame Notes
  • Justin Lebron extended his hitting streak to 10 games. During that stretch, Lebron is batting .422 (19-45) with three doubles, six home runs, 14 RBI, 13 runs and two hit-by-pitch.
  • Lebron made his first start in center field on Saturday. The freshman had started the previous 45 games at shortstop.
  • Kade Snell has now recorded a hit in eight straight contests. Over the streak, the redshirt junior is batting .455 (15-33) with two doubles, one homer, eight RBI, seven runs scored, one walk and a hit-by-pitch.
  • Snell has also reached base safely in each of his last 12 games.
Alabama and Mississippi State are set to meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT for the series finale in Starkville. The Crimson Tide's scheduled starter is junior right-hander Ben Hess while the Bulldogs counter with senior Brooks Auger, also a righty. Fans can catch the finale live on SEC Network+.
