An amazing photograph from NASA's Cassini spacecraft on July 19, 2013.

At a distance of about 898 million miles from Saturn, Earth is visible as a small, distinct blue dot at the center-right of the frame, with the moon appearing as a more subtle feature beside it. This distant perspective underscores our planet's isolation and minute scale in the vastness of space. Additional bright spots in the vicinity are stars, further enhancing the celestial context of this image.

This photograph reminds me of a 'Pale Blue Dot' photo taken by Voyager 1 in 1990, which shows how tiny Earth is yet significant in the universe.

Remember - this is our home. Let's take care of it.

Watch live coverage as SpaceX launches a Falcon 9 rocket with 23 Starlink internet relay satellites. Liftoff from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station is scheduled for 6:17 p.m. EDT (2217 UTC) on Tuesday, Apr. 23. The first-stage booster making its ninth flight will land on SpaceX's drone ship 'Just Read the Instructions', stationed in the Atlantic Ocean, about eight and a half minutes into the flight. The mission, designated Starlink 6-53, will be the 28th launch of Starlink satellites and the 41st flight of a Falcon 9 rocket this year. Commentary will be provided by Spaceflight Now's Will Robinson-Smith, starting approximately an hour prior to liftoff.

“We’ll launch when we’re ready,” he said.

If successful, the Starliner will join SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft in making routine trips to the space station, keeping the orbiting outpost fully staffed with astronauts from NASA and its partner space agencies.

Such a scenario — with both Crew Dragon and Starliner flying regularly — is one for which the US space agency has long waited.

“This is history in the making,” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said of the upcoming Starliner mission during a March 22 news conference. “We’re now in the golden era of space exploration.”

I hope they triple check all the bolts on the hatch for that thing. Don't want the "door" blowing off mid flight like on Boeing's planes. I'm sure Boeing cares more about the lives of Astronauts then the rest of us so, they should be safe ... maybe.

Tonight it's Boeing's turn........(night launch!)

Watch live coverage as a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket launches Boeing's Starliner capsule on a crucial test flight with NASA astronauts onboard for the very first time. Liftoff from pad 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station is scheduled for 10:34 p.m. EDT (0234 UTC) on Monday, May 6, 2024. Aboard for the Crew Flight Test (CFT) mission are commander Barry "Butch" Wilmore and pilot Sunita Williams. If all goes according to plan, the Starliner capsule will dock to the International Space Station on May 8. Commentary will be provided by Spaceflight Now's Will Robinson-Smith.

The Starliner launch was scrubbed. Better safe than sorry with 2 astronauts aboard!

The song Heroes is taken from British rock band Camel's album “The Single Factor” released in 1982 by Decca Music Group Ltd. This version was re-mastered by Paschal Byrne as part of the boxed set "Rainbow’s End: An Anthology 1973-1985" © 2010 Decca Records (London) Ltd (part of Universal Music Operations Ltd).

The boxed set was produced by Mark Powell. Heroes was written by Susan Hoover & Andrew Latimer (EMI Songs Ltd/Latimer Music)

The musicians are: Andrew Latimer: Guitars, Keyboards David Paton: Vocals, Bass Guitar Dave Mattacks: Drums Anthony Phillips: Grand Piano, Organ Chris Rainbow: Backing Vocals Produced by Tony Clark, Andrew Latimer & Hadyn Bendall Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London

The images are taken from three NASA films uploaded on Archive.org in the JSC PAO video collection and stated there to be in the public domain: “John F Kennedy speech - Rice Stadium”, "Mercury, Gemini, Apollo HD Resource Reel" & “We Are The Explorers” #JFK #NASA Everyone involved in the NASA space programs can be considered heroes.

This video is specifically dedicated to the memories of President John F Kennedy and to the crew of Apollo 1. JFK's 1961 backing for a manned Moon landing was crucial to what was achieved in 1969 with Apollo 11. The crew of Apollo 1 can be seen at 2'50''. Gus Grissom, Roger Chaffee & Ed White died in an accidental fire in January 1967 whilst in the command module on top of the Saturn IB rocket. It was a dress rehearsal for the first Apollo flight. Neil Armstrong and others were of the view that Apollo may not have reached its goal if NASA had not rethought its procedures and spacecraft as a result of this tragedy.

This is an unofficial music video and copyright in the sound and video remain with the original owners. John Young died in January 2018 aged 87 and the video is now also dedicated to the memory of this great NASA pioneer. He commanded the first space shuttle mission having flown to the moon twice and was the only astronaut to fly missions on Gemini, Apollo and the Space Shuttle. #apollo

Just like old times......

I'm ancient enough to remember watching the splashdown of the Apollo 11 capsule - just over 51 years ago......

Frogmen: "Hey Neil, do you have moon germs?" Neil: "Nah, just a pair of stones."

There were always several teams of divers for each splash down.
I was always more intrigued by splash down, than I was for blast off.
I loved seeing the relics at 'Red Stone', At the time (1968). I was dating a girl who had the right connections. Her Father was one of the Scientist we brought over from Germany to work on our Rocket Program.

Boeing’s historic Starliner mission now expected to launch no sooner than May 17 after valve issue

The long-awaited first crewed mission of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft will be delayed for more than a week after engineers identified an issue that halted launch preparations on Monday.

Starliner’s next opportunity to lift off on its maiden voyage from NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida is at 6:16 p.m. ET on May 17.

Veteran NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore had already taken their seats aboard the Starliner capsule when the operations team called for a scrub Monday night about two hours before launch.

Apparently there will be an opportunity see an aurora at lower latitudes. IE…Huntsville. Apparently we got a serious CME that is going to make the aurora show up way south.
