Here's an article referencing a study that shows young people who play sports develop "grit," i.e., passion and perseverance. I could not agree more and a really good reason we need to have coaches who not only understand the game, but also understand how to develop young people into adults...

Here's some statistics regarding Youth participation in sports -- ages 6-12:

Core participation in select youth sports (ages 6-12) shows a boon for golf and tennis, but not much else. In 2022, roughly 1.7 million youth played golf on a regular basis, a jump of 32.6% since 2019, and tennis saw a 51% increase for the same period. Meanwhile, baseball and football were down 20.1% and 13.2%. Others trending down were basketball (0.4%), hockey (17.5%) and wrestling (23.2%).
