But TR already knew we were recruiting EL for the possibility of being added to this class. EL has nothing to do with TR still being the premiere back of this class, especially if EL is still borderline on qualifying.

EL from my understanding, is supposed to be one of the main future backs, while TR is expected to come in and contribute early as one of the top three backs. And if Upchurch unfortunately can't go, her has a chance of being one of the top two backs. EL would mostly likely be competing for 3rd or 4th, with the possibility of redshirting.

Positions of course, will all be decided over the course of the Spring and Summer. IM is a quality back that will be in the mix for PT as well as JP. But if TR is able to translate his skills over to the college level immediately, there's a great chance he'll see the ball a LOT this fall.

So when it's all said and done, I would really be surprised to not see him sign with UA on the 4th. But then again, dude has to do whats best for him.

Meyer has the full court press on, telling TR that he's the "big back" he wants, needs and doesn't have (unless you count Tebow). And, as I said, CLT is meddling. For the life of me, I can't see TR falling for the BB line. That type of offense seldom needs/uses a back like TR. I'm sure he'll do well if he signs there, but he'll get more carries, and I think more productive carries, at UA...

Earle I have to admit I'm a little surprised you think it is unlikely we can get both. The LSU and UF sites writers both seem to think Trent is Bama bound and he isn't even visiting UT(presumably because of the CLT incident). EL seems to be a heavy lean but he is supposed to visit Knoxville. I think if we lose either it will be EL but even that I think is unlikely, IMHO.

They also have Moody who sits the bench most of the game.

CUM is very funny, that dude has never wanted a big back, if so, he would have BEEN picked one up out of all the talent over the last few years.

Fact is, ALL the main backs UF has recruited this year have committed somewhere else. And they only landed one last year in Demps who is 5 foot 9 and 162 punds ...

CUM already has the big back he wants, and his name is TIM TEBOW. lol

Plus, he also just recruited ANOTHER QB that's 6 foot 3, 230 ...

AT, I think EL is all but a lock. The question is "qualify," "prep" or "S&P." All of the people whom I know, and who have fairly close knowledge think that CLT's meddling has decreased the percentage of success of landing TR. I was hearing 75-80% before the CLT thing, and, then, after I'm hearing anywhere from 50% to 70%. All these are just intelligent estimates, but they're based on conversations with him, conversations he's had with friends, etc. No one knows but TR, and he's been pretty cagey. I'm not sure he really decided at this point...

Or, at least, didn't want one until CNS threatened to recruit one right out of his backyard. I've suspected for a while now that UF's late push was a product of CM's ego-drive, more than any spread-option need...

I am sure that ego plays a role, but I do think that Meyer has some legitimate concerns with seeing us come in and snag Richardson.

We've always recruited pretty well in Florida, but of course the Gators never cared when we were coming in and just scooping up their leftovers. We were basically racking up on guys that they never wanted anyway, so we took them while they took the cream of the crop. With Richardson, though, it's a very different story. He's one of the best players that state has produced in years and years, if not ever, and I think it scares Meyer a bit to think Nick Saban and Alabama can now come into Florida and get elite recruits.

Saban really started the Texas pipeline at LSU, and I would imagine Meyer is a bit wary of him doing something similar at Alabama with Florida. The state of Florida turns out a ton of talent, but it's split up between three schools, and South Florida is emerging too. The last thing that Meyer wants to see is an elite program establish a legitimate recruiting presence in the state. Obviously, if he can fight us off for Richardson and keep him in Gainesville, that goes a long way to helping his cause on that front.

But you're right though about need, Florida really has no need for a guy like Richardson in their offense. The spread option is a great offense, and this is not meant as a criticism of it, but the reality is that it effectively eliminates the traditional tailback position. That system needs a tailback about as much as a basketball offense that runs up and down the floor non-stop needs a seven foot big man.

Meyer is not necessarily recruiting TR for his team as much as he just wants to keep him away from Bama. He knows what TR could do in Alabama's offense and fears having to face that in the CC game. It's a tactic Coach Bryant once used against the barn very effectively.

I'm still waiting for it to kick in as it looks like CNS focused on GA first . What once was an open option for the barn , is no longer

BTW - New poll coming middle/late next week :)

Speaking of which, a couple of points on this one...

The top eight vote-getters in this poll are, in order, as follows:

  1. Dre Kirkpatrick
  2. Tana Patrick
  3. Ed Stinson
  4. Kendall Kelly
  5. Pat Patterson
  6. Bobby Massie
  7. Brandon Moore
  8. Darren Myles
Interestingly enough, that's the eight that I picked, and it's also the eight that BOL predicts us to end up with.

Finally, also note that only about 38% of us Alabama fans here on TF think that Rueben Randle will sign with us. And thought ought to tell you about all you need to know.

I to goes to show that while getting Randle would be a major soup and a slap at the corndoggers, not getting him doesn't make or break a recruiting season for Bama. That is such a beautiful site to see. Randle would be the cherry on top of a double deck chocolate cake with double chocolate iciing.

I hear ya Earle and God knows I worry about Trent at least a little every day. But it with the LSU and UF insiders lowering confidence, Trent not going to UT, and the fact that I believe Trent would have de-committed by now if he was not coming to Bama and of course it helps having CNS in charge of the whole process and he rarely loses commits. I feel good about Trent sticking with us. But I know CLT needs to have a foot shoved up his....well you know. I have heard a lot of stories about CLT and Trent and CNS and encounters between the three since CLT left. I don't know what is true and what isn't so I won't post it here. But from all I know I believe the smart money is on Trent signing with Bama on NSD and on the Third Saturday in October CLK, CLT, and Tennessee getting their Orange tails kicked all over Bryant-Denny and next year being a lot more careful meddling in CNS' affairs.

All of these reasons right here are what makes me drool when I think how sweet it's going to be when Saban takes the chinless one to school and drops him off at the busstop. I want very badly to see us establish some recruiting pipelines all throughout the state of fla so that they know what it feels like to have someone snatched right out from under their doorstep the way we had it done to us when Shula was here. Then while this happens I want CNS to hang 50 pts on them and beat them like red headed step children with a 10 game winning streak while we're winning trophies. Cm isnt half of the coach that CNS is and wouldnt have won 8 games with our players this year. He's definitely scared of the sleeping giant elephant and CNS too just like the rest of the sec is. The dry "stiff" leader and jaws imitators need an ego check and someone to humble them back to reality.
