Hey all. I've had sinus problems all my life. For the past 10 years everytime I catch a cold or get bad allergies I end up with a sinus infection and have to go on antibiotics. I'm in the middle of one now and my ENT says if it's not cleared up by the end of this round of Augmentin he'll need a CT scan and then most likely surgery.

My questions are does the surgery help keep sinus infections from forming? Is the recovery painful? I've never had surgery before so I am concerned. Any input is appreciated. :BigA:

My Mom had surgery a few weeks ago. I don't know alot about all of the reasons she needed it but I do know she has always had problems with her sinuses. Seems like she had some kind of cysts in there that they had to go in and get out. They went in through her nostrils, so there wasn't any cutting and that reduced the pain. She was in pain but I got a chest cold and couldn't visit her until later, so I couldn't give you an exact pain level.

My wife had chronic sinus infections for years. Had surgery about 15 years ago and has not had a single sinus infection since...

Man where have you been? I believe that your little online bubble has been blue more in the past couple of days than I have seen it in monthes.:p_green:

Had it done over a decade ago. I had chronic infections for years prior to it. The pain after surgery isn't too bad...good pain relievers are a must though. Don't do too much straining (heavy lifting) for a couple of weeks. In about a month after you'll notice a big difference. After a few months you'll regret not having it done sooner. I've had a couple of sinus problems since but none that required antibiotics.

I have had it done twice. Once around 1990 & again 10 years later. There had been much improvement during that time. They will vaporize all the infectious material and remove any polyps. They pack your sinuses with gauze and the remove of that is the worst part to me. If you want to know more details send me a PM.

im scheduled for surgery in 2 weeks. i'll let you know how it turns out. my dr said they dont pack it with gauze anymore. they just stick a plastic brace up your nose and then yank it out after a couple weeks.

Anytime a doctor uses the term "yank" I think I would have to do some research.:PDT_orc1:

I'm a Nasonex snorter...2 hits each side in the morning. Has done *amazing* things for my chronic sinusitis. The downside is the the 'roids contained in Nasonex make many bulk up uncomfortably. I, of course, already look like Ah-nold in his prime, so the marginal impact has been negligible. :D

(by "Ah-nold," I meant Arnold Ziffel, the pig from the old Green Acres show...)
