How do "you" reply when someone tells you "Roll Tide"??

Glad you bring this up... a sore spot for me....

In 1964 when I became a Bama fan and all the way through 1972 when I left to go into the Navy EVERYBODY (Bama Fans) I knew used "Roll Tide" as a greeting and a response. I grew up with that.
I have lived out of state for several years and notice 90% of the time when I see a person in Bama attire and throw out a hearty "Roll Tide" I just get a "Hi" or a smile or something like that.... Hardly ever a "Roll Tide" back.
I am almost at the point of explaining to the next person, the appropriate response is a hearty "Roll Tide", thank you very much.....
Geez!!! So, Chris, greet me with a "Roll Tide" and I will respond with a heart felt "ROOOLLLL TIIIDE"

I'm so glad this has been brought up becuase the above seems to be what I get most of the time as well. I guess those are the band wagon fans. It drives me nuts. It's almost like they are embarassed to say "ROLL TIDE" in public. If you're not a fan, don't wear BAMA stuff in public!!

On the opposite end of that I mostly get Barners yelling WE to me and it's all I can do NOT to make a scene........

I usually just stick with the basic "Roll Tide" if I'm in a line or not in a hurry I will start up a conversation. On a side note there are a lot of people out there that really have no clue about football. Kinda makes me not even want to start a conversation.

I always say "what, you think we're friends now?". j/k

I usually give them a completely stunned look, followed by a huge smile. Sometimes, I'll say "yes!" or "roll tide roll". It doesn't happen very much here in Oregon.

I respond with Roll Tide, even out here in Colorado-I met a good ole boy (from Enterprise, AL) in line at Sams a few weeks ago and we discussed McElroys woes including fade passes to Julio. I think everyone else around us thought we were crazy and could not figure out what we were talking about...

I always respond with Roll or another Roll Tide.

Like many other posts, this year there seems to be many more Bama Fans or at at least there are more people that want to start a conversation about Bama. Right now many Georgia Fans are anti-Florida so I get many Roll Tides and Keep Rolling if I have on a Bama hat or other attire.

Up in the Smokies last week, I got many Roll Tides. I usually respond with a "Roll Tide back atcha". But while hiking up to Laurel Falls last Friday, I passed a ut fan who sneered, "where'd you get that shirt?" I smiled and kept hiking.

Have you noticed that wearing Bama gear is a like a lightening rod for reactions, both positive and negative? Lately most in my direction has been the positive kind.

"Roll Tide" or "Yep."

Just to note: 97% of the time someone says "roll tide" to me, they are of an older generation. The term is losing popularity as a greeting and I don't think it's that big a deal.

I usually give a big "Roll Tide!" back. It's been known to shock folks. I don't see too many Tide fans here in Bulldog country, so I'm usually pretty excited to see a fellow Bammer.

I guess I would be part of the 3% in the younger generation. For me it's a way to identify friendlies when I am in enemy territory. Kind of like the 101st airborne using "Flash" and "Thunder" to identify themselves to one another after dropping behind enemy lines in Germany.

Maybe I'm over thinking this. :biggrin2:

I usually reply with either "Rammer Jammer" or "Roll Tide". It's always great to run into a fellow Bama Fan!

To the occasional barner "weegle" thing I usually reply with " My Condolences".

I get that a lot here in North Carolina.

I usually respond one of two ways.

1. Thumbs up, or

2. Roll Tide, roll with emphasis on the last roll.

The choice of responses depends on the circumstances of the greeting.

I was in Galinburg, TN this past Sunday wearing my BAMA shirt. I got probably a dozen "Roll Tide" greetings. I usually return a "Roll Tide" and a smile. We ate at an Italian resturant that had several large UT flags hanging. Their tableclothes were paper & they have crayons on the table to draw with. My daughter left a huge "Roll Tide" in red lettering for the waiter. I made sure I left his tip on top of that area so that he was sure to see it.

Roll Tide!!!!!!

It actually happens here in Texas more than you would think. I usually respond with a GO BAMA! Mainly for the benefit of those around who wouldn't understand otherwise. You can't sling a cat out here without hitting a Longhorn fan so it's even more fun right now. Once they hear GO BAMA! they want to talk about the BCSCG.
