Other than kidnap Tebow before the game, what should our approach be on defense. If we can keep his receivers covered he will run 80 percent of the time. If we tackle low he falls forward for 3 or 4 yards. If we tackle him high it will take 2 or 3 to stop him and he usually drags defenders for 2 to 4 yards, He seldom throws interceptions. Needless to say,our defense has their work cut out. On offense, our best bet is run, run, run with long sustained drives. I hope we can stay in the game and wear them down in the 4th quarter. Our special teams should have a good day and our receivers will have to make a few big plays. Maybe we can score often the 1st half and hope to hang on in the second. It will be close but I think Bama wins like 24-17.:)

Firts and foremost - stop the dive play. Cody and McCalin are going to have good games, but we lost last year even when we contained him because we gave him too much time to make plays in the short passing game. So, IMO, we have to play their receivers more physically at the LOS. We need to disrupt the short pass patterns. Force him to hold onto the ball.

I think that we will limit them to 24 points or less - maybe a lot less.

Not one to look past the barn... but; IMO we need to stop St Timmy first and foremost. Every opportunity we get- we plant him on the ground. Make him earn every single yard- the HARD WAY! (Nothing illegal; just good/hard hitting football).

RTR!!!!

Force Tebow to pass...do not allow him to run. Lizards will not win if Tebow has, oh, 15 yds rushing. He doesn't have "great" receivers (Cooper is only as good as his pushing and shoving will take him). They are good, not great.

-- I think tebow can be confused with reading defenses, or at least he takes a little longer to get to secondary WRs...

...from what little I know of Saban's D schemes, there is a lot of disguising and mixing of coverages, which would seem to be perfect when playing a QB like Tebow...

--take away Riley Cooper and TE Aaron hernandez, about 80% of his throws go to those 2 guys, cover the rest in single coverage until UF throws to them more than once/game

-- protect against the deep ball, tebow throws a good deep ball, but you do not have to be super vigilant against the screens and flare patterns, Tebow's short throws are actually fairly inaccurate...

--lots of blitzes and stunts, both Tebow and the OL have had trouble with stunts and blitzes...

--spy Tebow with McClain or another fairly quick defender on the 3rd and intermediate plays Tebow often runs in...

Sounds pretty easy, eh? That's the interesting thing, b/c even with tebow's obvious flaws as a passing QB and the OL's less than great pass blocking, UF seems to score plenty of points to win.

Tebow is great on 3rd down, throwing and passing, and he almost never throws a pick and will take a sack before throwing it up for grabs...

--UF hasn't shown the option pitch wide much this year, it is usually very effective, hard for fans to understand why it isn't being run more...

Good post - pretty much spot on...

Methinks you give TT too much credit. No one falls forward 9-12 feet unless they're about 18-20 feet tall. And I'd love to see him drag TC and RC 2 to 4 yards. Heck, I think Javy can handle him one on one, that little dude can lay the lumber.

I agree with force them to throw. They do not have the caliber of receivers this year they had last. Riley Cooper cheats and gets away with it. He also lobbies the sec officials for calls and gets them. Stay in his hip pocket all day and when he does catch it, make him pay. Expect push offs, grabbing your jersey, "tangling" feet, etc. Our DBs should handle their other receivers pretty well. Their TE is a serious weapon and has to be accounted for every play. It's best if he gets hung up near the line of scrimmage. He has not played against a linebacker corps like we have.

When St. Tebow runs, you have to tackle him fundamentally and hard. He is very good at not taking solid direct hits if he can avoid it, but DO NOT rough him. They will protect him like crazy and a six yard run + a 15 yard penalty = an explosive play.

The dive play is the key to what they do and a little bit of difference can change the game. If they get three yards on it every down, you are in trouble (see LSU). If they get two or fewer, they are in trouble. You have to stop that play. Cody must command and handle a double team all afternoon. Helps if they have to drive the length of the field.

Keep their offense on the bench. Shorten the game / limit their touches by grinding it out on offense. Take your time. This also decreases the number of times their qb (and he is a good one) gets a chance to look at your various schemes and coverages. Score TDs, not FGs. If they get behind as many scores in the second half this year as they did last year, the result will be different, fewer weapons to use to come back.

Last, and this scares me most, do not give up kick returns for TDs or short fields. That's like asking a 5 year old to guard the M&Ms.

I love you TommyMac but have you checked Tebows yards per carry lately. Also,do you remember the 4th quarter last year. Yes I give him credit and I respect him but I also think like all of the other poaters, we can handle him. RTR

Great scouting report PDX Gator. I hope you don't mind if we pass this along to CNS.

We both have business to take care of this weekend, but I'm looking forward to December 5th. I think it's going to be another great one between the two premier programs of the SEC. It should be a great one!!!

I think it was either Arkansas or South Carolina who made sure that their pass rushers stayed in front of Tebow, did not want to wind up behind him when he was being rushed. He also has a long release that he holds low so keeping him in the pocket can set up the possibily of stripping the ball. USC had a spy, #40 who did a very good job keeping him from breaking containment.

As someone has mentioned stopping the dive and the inside option pitch to Hernandez.

I do not think we will be able to wear down their defense like we have most teams. IMO they have the edge in the kicking game, and we need to not have any breakdowns in kickoff coverage. Our corners need to take away the slants and force their receivers to the outside which is a harder throw. Just an opinion.
