Do we won't the ball first or do we won't our D on the field first? I think we have taken the ball first in a few games this year but can't remember which games. If the D takes the field first and we get a 3 and out that's a great way to start the game.;)
But if the O gets it first and we score a TD that's really big IMO. Just wondering what your thoughts are. Either way it's important we set a big time tone early in this game JMO.

If I am not mistaken, we won the coin toss against Auburn and took the ball (at least, that's what I heard Eil say on the radio). We went 3 and out and started the Auburn siege. I would much rather go on Defense 1st and have the ball 1st in the 2nd half.

IMO, our D is much more likely to get a 3 and out than our offense is to score on the first drive.

I also think we dont want to give UF a short field for their opening drive. remember this is the best Defense we will face, so the chances of our offense driving the field on them the first drive is unlikely. If we were to go 3 and out, or only get one first down, then that would give UF pretty decent field position. If we come out on D, I think we can hold them to less than 2 first downs. That could give Javy room to make a good return and put us in good field position, forcing our offense to drive only half the field or so to score on our opening drive....of course that is if our D plays like I hope it will.

I just dont see our offense driving he whole field on a FRESH Florida Defense. We will have our long sustained drives once we wear down the defense.

"Alabama wins the toss and elects to receive."

I copied this from the Play by Play transcript off of RollTide.com for the Auburn game.

Coach Saban's MO is to receive in away games and defer in home games. He believes that if you can score first as the visitor you take the home crowd out of the game. since this is a neutral site game, I do not know which he will take. If it were me, I would defer.

Wear down their defense? With the depth they have? I doubt we do that.
If we win the toss, I think I had rather defer and let them have the ball. Then pin our ears back and knocked the taste out of their mouth, get a 3 and out, and maybe ole Mo might jump over to our side for a while for our first offensive possession.

Defer. Go on defense and get after Tebow. Put some good clean HARD hits on him from every direction. Give him something to think about the rest of the game. I really think he has been a little tenative since the Kent. game.
I really think a big key is to get Tebow thinking about the pressure that is coming.

I was under the impression that we had done this too. It was a big surprise to me and it did not work out well. Hopefully we won't do it again.

FWIW, in 7 of the last 8 SECCG's, the team that scored first has lost the game. The lone exception was, of course, last year

Even if we just get a field goal I would much rather see us ahead 3-0 than down 7-0 in the first quarter. This game is going to be about momentum and the team that scores first is going to have it. So let's take the ball and score first.

OK just to change thing's up a bit, what if UF wins the coin toss? What do you think they will do? I would bet a dollar to a doughnut (if phat phil don't eat it first:)) that UF defers to the second half JMO.
I would think we defer, but you never know what's going through a coach's mind.
Either way I hope it works best for the good guy's! ;)
