Link: The NCAA dives headfirst into UTe recruiting...(Let's try to keep it all here)

OK, I throw myself out there (for the umpteenth time  ) to support the Vols...

Obviously, if girls were sent to "give favors" to HS kids, then we should be given the death penalty

But, If the girls went to the games, then I guess it is a violation, but even y'all have to admit that this is just dumb...Really, girls came to games with signs, say Hi , but bc they are UT hostesses, that's a violation??? Whatever floats thier boat. If they want to hit us, fine, I'll take it like a man

Not real concerned with this...

It will be interesting to see if the University paid their mileage, meals and provided some sort of compensation. If it turns out so, then this could be a bigger problem than you think, Tenn..

It appears they did, which like I said, is technically a violation...I just think it's another one of the NCAA's stupid rules...That's why I'm saying that if that's all it was, then I'll take the penalty and go on with life...

I haven't seen anything saying this. I am sure they covered their tracks better than leaving a money trail or heaven forbid credit card receipts. I don't think anything will come of this. Unless someone made a monumental blunder somewhere it will be hard to prove any connection to the FB team....hard to track cash.

My take:

This violation could be a big deal. Not because of the penalties, but because of the players involved and the proximity to NSD. The impending NCAA investigation and bigger threat of a potential 'wide' investigation by the NCAA makes this a big deal. They could lose recruits, further damage Kiffin's rep (not that UT cares), and of course catch some penalties.

He we still have his "street rep" though.....

I didn't know Lou Holtz was a student at tn. :)

Tennessee ...I think you should be concerned. The NCAA has taken the highly unusual step of entering into an investigation before signing day. They may have done so to prevent you from recruiting or signing the specific prospects involved. If they do that, you can also expect reduced official visits, reduced off campus recruiting, and possibly additional scholarship losses.
If these girls were directed or reimbursed in any fashion, it could be really ugly.

My tcw...
If...IF...it is proven anyone at the the university knew about this, it's a problem for the orange puke.
If they not only knew, but covered expenses for these "hostesses(?) (and how can they be a "hostess" when they are on the road, unless they are "hosting" them somewhere), it's a huge problem for the orange puke.
Doing this on campus is one thing, but going on the road and doing it is something else...I don't see the orange puke coming out of this clean, if any of the above is found to be true. Lame has irritated too many people.

One wonders if Lane came up with this himself, or if it's something he learned from Pete Carroll. And I agree with the poster above...sex sells. This has potential to be really bad.

Any time the NCAA comes digging around it is trouble. There's no telling what they may stumble upon while they are on campus. I just wish it could be splattered all over the news for a couple of years.

Yes, after what Jajwan James said about Alabama's investigation it is only fitting he be investigated himself.

Someone please remind me:

Are our own Bama Belles still in existence? My poor overworked brain seems to remember something from a few years back about our hostesses being removed from certain situations involving recruits out of fear of it looking improper.

Anybody else's brain working better than mine this morning???

I'm wondering if Kiffin is just following the USC recruiting blueprint. The big difference being that USC does/did a better job of keeping the little things like "hostess" trips on the down-low.

The guy obviously either has no idea what the NCAA rules are or just really doesn't care what the rules are.

Is there a record for the number of secondary recruiting violations in one year?

The Bama Belles were dissolved back in 2003 or 2004, I believe.

I agree with the NCAA stupid rules part. I wish the NCAA could be scrapped altogether. But this has been a rule for a long time. This is a Les Miles type of boneheaded mistake (though he saves his mistakes for the games, themselves).

Kiffin can't keep making these mistakes. The NCAA will eventually decide that he just doesn't care about their rules - and when that happens, it will be TN staring down the barrel of a gun. Take it from a Bama fan, that isn't fun...
