I have actually seen all of these in the last week or so. Not very difficult and not really tricky. What should we have?

1 - Red team lines up to kick off at the Red40. Red kicks a pooch kick and it is caught in flight by a Red player at the Red 48. What do you have? What would you have if the ball was caught in flight at the Blue 45?

2 - A has the ball on the 50. A drops back to pass and throws an interception at the B40. Before the interception, B is flagged for pass interference. B is the tackled at the A35. During the interception return, A15 is flagged for a personal foul (hit B player in the back) at the 50 yard line. A34 is also flagged for a personal foul (hit another B player in the back) just before the end of the return. What do you have?

3 - 1st & 10 A from the A45. A15 drops back to pass and then scrambles where he is sacked at the A40. There is a flag dropped at the B45 for defensive holding. Where is the penalty enforced from? What would the next down and distance be?

4 - K lines up for a kick off at the K40. It is a low line drive kick that hits the ground and rolls out of bounds at the R38. What do you have? What would you have if R had touched the kick ? What if R touches the ball and it then rolls into the end zone, instead of out of bounds?

5 - K lines up to kick off at the K40. The ball is kicked and rolling on the ground at the R35. R19 jumps at the ball trying to recover it and the ball squirts out of his arms, when this happens there is an inadvertent whistle. A split second after the whistle K55 jumps on the ball and recovers at the R35. What do you have?

We actually had 4 or these 5 plays happen in one middle school game this week and the other happened in another middle school game earlier in the week. I am thankful to have a Friday night off after the hectic week we have had.

I tried reading through all of those scenarios and now have a headache, but I will say that in #2 I'd just call offsetting penalties and have a do over, lol.

I know they are hard to read, especially when you break down and the yard lines, players numbers, and which team did what. After that you have to decide what should happen.

Best thing to do is read and break down one play at a time. Forget about it. Then read and break down the next play.

1. I believe that the ball has to hit the ground before the receiving team can recover it even if it does go 10 yards. I say back them up 5 and do it again.

2. Offsetting penalties, replay the down.

3. 10 yds from the previous spot, auto 1st down?

4. R can choose to take the ball at the spot it went out of bounds, at the 35, or have K re-kick. If R touched it you take it where it rolled out of bounds. If R touches it and it rolls into the end zone, the ball becomes dead if it were a muff and not a fumble due to the force of the kick. If he fumbled it and picked it up and then ran it into the end zone the ball is live.

5. The ball is dead at the spot of the ball where the whistle is blown. 1st down R (I believe).

How'd I do?

1 k cannot be first to touch a free kick until it hits the ground.
2. offsetting
3. 10 yards from previos spot, not automatic first.
4. r has 3 options,25 yards from k free kick line, 5 yard penalty and rekick,or where the ball goes out of bounds.touchback when ball goes into endzone on a muff.
5.looseball play, do over.

Aden - check #3. I believe that fouls by B during a running play are enforced from the end of the run. I have been searching and cannot find a reference to back up my claim.

#3 is not an automatic first down in high school.

Your auto first downs are defensive pass interference and all your roughings. Passer, Kicker, Holder, and Snapper

An officiating nightmare.

1 - Red team lines up to kick off at the Red40. Red kicks a pooch kick and it is caught in flight by a Red player at the Red 48. What do you have? What would you have if the ball was caught in flight at the Blue 45?
This is Kick Catching Interference by Red in both cases. Blue has the option to take an awarded fair catch at the spot of the interference, or have K rekick after a 15-yard penalty.
Since the team in final possession (B) fouled before gaining possession. these penalties offset, and the down is replayed.

3 - 1st & 10 A from the A45. A15 drops back to pass and then scrambles where he is sacked at the A40. There is a flag dropped at the B45 for defensive holding. Where is the penalty enforced from? What would the next down and distance be?
The penalty is enforced from the A40, the end of the run. 1st-and-5 from the 50.

R may take the ball at the R38 or have K rekick after a 5-yard penalty. (I would NOT offer R the choice of taking the ball 25 yards from the free kick spot, since that would be the R-35.)

5 - K lines up to kick off at the K40. The ball is kicked and rolling on the ground at the R35. R19 jumps at the ball trying to recover it and the ball squirts out of his arms, when this happens there is an inadvertent whistle. Inadvertant whistle while the ball is loose following a legal kick or pass. No option -- replay the down.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes :)

cant find reference in rule book , but I still think I'm right ,10 yds from pevios spot on #3,may be covered on the all but one rule.
This is a foul during a running play, so the basic spot is the end of the run (the A40).

Interestingly, if A had fumbled or thrown an incomplete (legal) forward pass, the basic spot would be the previous spot.
