Rich Rodriguez fired from Michigan (updated 1/5/11)

re: UM AD says no decision yet on Rich Rodriguez's future

Two reputable sources are saying that Rich Rodriguez will be coaching his last game at Michigan on Saturday.

Tom Dienhardt tweeted it as well.

Every day I see that knucklehead walking the sidelines at Ann Arbor, I thank GOD he turned us down.

What an unmitigated disaster.
I shiver at the thought of him walking the sidelines of BDS as our HC..The Barn may have an opening before long he can apply for though..

That whole scenario in 2006 was bizzare. I remember sources ssaying Moore didn't want him, and still wanted Coach Saban, but some on the BOT didn't want to wait until after Miami's season was over. They insisted that CNS would become our coach if we were patient. Others say Rita was the reason why he didn't sign. Thank goodness for Rita.

maybe he and the mountaineers can kiss and make up...apparently bill stewart's got one foot out the door and another on a banana peel up in morgantown.

re: UM AD says no decision yet on Rich Rodriguez's future

i'm curious to see if they would go after Malzahn since they have recruited the type of athletes to play in his offense and plus he has a QB in robinson who has the experience in running that type of offense? just a thought....

HAHA..My money goes on Harbaugh..

Agree, or Les who's stock is up with the win over Bama and his ability to find ways to win. He knows that he'll have more time at Michigan if he gets back to traditional football like Michigan and ourselves like........not winning with your quarterback.

Les has 6 pretty much guaranteed years at Michigan
Les has around 3 at LSU.

His ties are stronger to Michigan I and he will be ranked as one of the Big 10's elite coaches.

I think it's Les as a no brainer.

That would certainly be my choice.

In a heartbeat.

Young AND proven. That's very difficult to find.

Don't be surprised if they don't go for Petersen at Boise though.

His stock is probably through the roof. And he runs an offense more adaptable to Michigans current freshmen and sophomore recruits.

sip

So, the reports are that he's out even if he pulls the unbelievable upset over Ohio St.? Not that I'm expecting that to happen, but it's strange that this info has come out before their big game.

Agreed...Harbaugh will be a good get for a major school if he's stays a college coach. Some think he has nfl aspirations, but Michigan would be a good fit for him I think.

I think those possible (probably likely) NFL aspirations might keep Michigan from going after Harbaugh. He'd be a home run hire for anyone, but I just don't think he'd be around that long, and it's going to be a long rebuilding process in Ann Arbor...

re: UM AD says no decision yet on Rich Rodriguez's future

I have a good buddy who's brother in law was in the athletic dept at WVU.. I mentioned to my buddy about Rod going back to WVU, where he belongs and should have never left. He replied that according to is bro in law.. Rod burned his bridges there.. they were triple peeved at him. BUT,.. that's been a couple of years... you never know, he may be back in mo'town again soon.

re: UM AD says no decision yet on Rich Rodriguez's future

I called this before the season started, and said that Harbaugh would eventually be the coach at Michigan next year. I will say this...if he is then look for Michigan to be "back" relatively quickly.

re: UM AD says no decision yet on Rich Rodriguez's future

Tell you what..if they do fire him, they're gonna be in the wilderness for at least 3 more years. The same way Fran recruited players to fit his style of offense and we stunk after he left, the same thing will happen. Fortunately, Fran had Croyle on the sidelines. Forcier is no Croyle.

Instead of getting rid of RichRod, they should just hire a new defensive coordinator.

re: Harbaugh, he's got an NFL job waiting on him (specifically in San Francisco) if he wants it. With his success, coupled with the success his brother has seen in Baltimore, it works in his favor.

I would imagine Harbaugh would have the inside track since he is a Michigan Man regardless of his not so nice comments a few years back. I also read somewhere last week, can't recall where it was, that Chris Petersen will take the USC job once the sanctions are over and Kiffin and Orgeron are ousted.
