Is it time for the SEC and Bama to part ways?

The announcement by ESPN that they would be starting the new Texas network with 24/7 programming for 300 million make it reasonable that Bama could do much the same. Clearly Alabama is the premier team when it relates to TV ratings for football. Look at last years SEC and BCSNCG rating which were the best of all time. Ratings for both were significantly down this year with AU representing the SEC.

The SEC has become a toxic environment as well. Both Alabama and now AU will likely be under NCAA scrutiny as a result of keeping up with the Jones mentality that now exists in the conference as a whole. Bama from the Means fiasco and AU for the Camscam and other issues. It might be time for Alabama and AU to be independent of one another with neither schools success dependent on the failure of the other school.

I think the independent FBS schools are an anomaly that we wouldn't do well to join. Two are service academies. One is Notre Dame, who probably would be better within a conference. The other is BYU, who is trying to emulate Notre Dame with uncertain success.

Should of left when a fellow member institution and the commish conspired to 'Put Alabama out of the football business'

Although I know its best in the BCS era for the perception of a strong conference, so It is probably in our best interest. But It is hard for me to listen to Bama fans chant SEC, SEC, SEC

I feel no sense of loyalty at all to the SEC.

The University should have explored other avenues when "Our" Conference Commissioner warned Arkansas, Ole Miss, and UGA away from Albert Means, yet inexplicably did not also warn Alabama or Kentucky - who both later paid the price.

I can't see the benefit of seceding from the premier athletic conference in the nation.

Do we then drop all other athletics, or is this just about football?

True. I can, however, see the benefit of throwing our weight around to get some things fixed--like terrible officiating and a commissioner who will turn a blind eye to anything so long as the money keeps rolling in.

If Alabama were to leave the SEC, it should be with many other schools and form a new "super" conference. All sports could be included as all the schools have most of them. I would love a two division conference with a championship game for all sports. I have always thought a conference with these schools would be fun:

EAST DIV.
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
LSU
Florida State

West Div.
Texas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Missouri
Texas Tech
TCU
Arkansas

Personally, I think departing from the SEC sounds crazy. However, I'm basing that strictly off of tradition and the power of our conference, not business.

Am I the only person who thinks that Alabama leaving the SEC sounds like the worst idea in the history of football? I mean, if I am, then I'll STFU right now. But c'mon, man. The SEC without Alabama makes as much sense as the Big XII without Nebraska. Or the Big East without Miami. Or...you know what? Nevermind. Carry on.

My point is that the big name schools are looking at their own deals much the same as Notre Dame, BYU, and now Texas have negotiated. I would venture to say that at some point in the future most big name schools will be independent. The Big 12 is now Texas and all their little sisters who get zero dollars from the new ESPN agreement. The SEC network's value is based largely on national TV ratings. Alabama draws more viewers than perhaps any other team with the possible exception of Florida. Alabama is the team people outside of the Southeast watch on TV and we are splitting the proceeds evenly with USC, Ole Miss,Vandy, MSU, TENN, and AU who bring almost no viewers outside of their own fan bases. We are paying the freight for the other schools

I also believe the SEC may be eating itself alive right now with the shenanigans going on on the "dirtiest village on the plains". If AU gets hit hard by the NCAA, who do you think those idiots will blame? They will do everything in their power to bring Bama down in the gutter with them. They will create NCAA issues if they can't find any problems. It wouldn't be the 1st time they've done it. Remember "Operation Red Dog" got Julio, Ingram and Jerrell Harris in hot water.

I personally think it woud be a huge mistake to leave the SEC. Being a member may cost us a few games here and there, but all in all, the conference is the best place we could possibly be.

As far as Texas getting their own network. keep in mind, Texas, not only has a football team that is the definition of consistency and winning, but they also have one of the premeir baseball and basketball teams in the country. Longhorn football may have taken a nosedive this year, but the university itself is still one of the best in the business.

This will never happen. Too much money to be made in the SEC collectively for any team to "drop out" of it. The $10 million plus each school receives annually is more than any other conference that Bama would transfer to could offer. Let's face it, the SEC needs Bama just as much as Bama needs the SEC.

Remember, money is the biggest factor in these decisions.
