Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)
IMHO, I think Cyrus wants to go to Auburn. I think you're right that much of it had to do with blazing his own trail. I'm sure playing time had a lot to do with it as well. I don't doubt for one minute that cheez-nip and staff were tell him that he'd probably have to RS a year at Bama but would not at Awbarn. And I doubt that CK put any thought to the logistical nightmare it was going to cause his parents. I'm sure his parents already had it planned out that both would attend Bama. They could travel in the same vehicle to the same place to watch both play. CK's decision put a huge monkey wrench into that now they are having to explain this to CK but ultimately will allow him to go where his heart lies which IMO is Auburn.

The more I think about it I think he just wanted to blaze his own trail. He's a kid. Big brother went to Alabama. Everybody expected him to go to Alabama and most likely father wanted him to go to Alabama because big brother was there and it would be best to have both kids at the same school for obvious reasons. Add to this that Cyrus took a visit the week before the announcement and just got confused. I see his commitment to Auburn as being a "buckaroo" thing to borrow a term from The Red October. His family didn't go with him to Auburn. So for him to go out on his own and commit without the family knowing or discussing him going to some other school than Alabama put them in a state of shock. Maybe that had as much to do with the obvious lack of comfort with his decision on national TV. Obviously he had not made up his mind the night before because he did not tell Arie. So the family dynamics must be pretty interesting. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. There is obviously something going on in the mind of CK and some family dynamics that made this a very bizarre deal. That should have been a happy day for Cyrus so I'm sad for him.
