*** QB Alec Morris Commits to Bama ***

Coach Mac said that when Lacy first arrived on campus, football wasn't the most important thing to him, but now it is. That trimmed physique is proof. I love to hear the coaches raving about how these kids are maturing. I was even more elated to hear Coach Smart talking about how he caught Dre Kirkpatrick in the weight room alone (without any mandated group workouts) in January right after the Capital One Bowl. Said it seems like the light has clicked on for Dre. I'm very excited to hear that.

But back to Mr. Morris.. we got another QB folks!!! Give it up for this coaching staff!

Are you saying that Phillip Sims is down to 205? I thought he looked lighter than when he got here. It looks like Eddie Lacy has dropped a few lbs too. Has anybody else noticed that?

You guys with this "He reminds me of McElroy" stuff have lost your minds...

Yes both are from Texas and under-the-radar when we picked them up, but the similarities end there. This kid is a good two or three inches taller than McElroy was at the time, probably twenty pounds heavier, a better arm, and more playing experience.

Obviously he might not turn out to be half the player that McElroy did -- whose development his last three years on campus was really something to behold -- but physically you really cannot compare this kid to where McElroy was when he came out of the Metroplex.

You know what they say about opinions... everyone has one. ;) A few analysts and even a website that specializes in Texas HS football, which followed both Morris and McElroy very closely has lost there mind also.

When you watch some of his throws in HS, he's making throws that the NFL scouts look for in guys. That middle of the field to the sideline on a 15 yard out is one of the hardest throws in the game to make and I saw this kid execute it effortlessly. It's really about a 40+ yard throw and he put it on a rope. Loved his footwork, very compact throwing motion but gets great velocity on it.

I'm a big Titans fan and watching this kid reminds me a heckuva lot like their 3rd string QB Rusty Smith. Tall, thick, short throwing motion, but a big arm, great mechanics and footwork. Now you might be saying, well that's not that good of a sign, Rusty's a 3rd stringer... but he's a 3rd stringer in the NFL. This kid looks darn near as good as him technique wise and he's still in HS, that's very impressive to me.

Though this my first post, I completely agree with this comment. However, G-Mac and this Alec kid have more in common than anyone has mentioned.

G-Mac decomitted from Texas Tech and committed to Bama right after Tim Tebow picked the Gators over the Tide.

Now Alec Morris has decomitted from WF and chosen the Crimson Tide right after Winston picked the criminoles.

Both of them jumped at the chance to play for Bama! Both were/are 3 stars. Need I go on...

The outs and the outside shoulder passes in the end zone are what sold me on his tape.

Go ahead. You can draw all the similarities in their stories you want but I agree with BET 100%, physically their are few similarities.

Like I said, we all have opinions... Obviously we are entitled to our individual opinions but to say someone has lost their minds when you disagree means you do not value that opinion at all. That is fine but expect a strong rebuttal. ;)

It is pretty funny that some of y'all are all over Morris like he is projected to be the top QB coming out of HS this season. If Bama had not offered him and accepted his commitment, I don't know that very many of you would even know his name.

Obviously Bama is happy to have him as a QB commit but there is no doubt they wanted at least two other QBs ahead of him very recently and several other QBs earlier on in the process. Several QB that had early Bama offers ended up committing elsewhere. Morris' only other offers are from North Texas and Wake Forest.

Don't get me wrong I very happy that Morris has chosen Bama and I certainly think he has all the tools to succeed at Bama. However I thought I was paying him a big compliment by saying that he reminds me of a cross between McElroy and Richard Todd. Both Todd and McElroy were drafted by the NY Jets after Bama. I certainly hope that Morris QBs/leads Bama to a NC and gets drafter into the NFL just like McElroy did.

It seems that Morris respects and admires McElroy alot. He says that he is honored to be compared to McElroy but he has not done anything to deserve that comparision. He also said that he grew up following McElroy at Bama and pulled for 'him' during the NC game against Texas. If Morris breaks some of McElroy's Bama QB records he will have done something special until then he is just a talented HS QB that is committed to Bama with a whole lot of potential. But to say he is head and shoulders better than McElroy at the same time in his HS career is not an accurate accessment in my opinion.

lol, high praise sir.

Kitchens was bit heavier and not nearly as elusive in the pocket as Morris. I know the comparison is physical but I would not use Kitchens as a comparison of his passing style. Kitchens had absolutely no touch, every pass was hard enough to go through a brick wall. He was a tough son of a gun though. I will give him that. ;)

For the record, I knew who Morris was before Bama offered him. ;)

As far as comparisons to GMac, there are similarities as well as differences. They both play(ed) for perennial contenders in Texas HS football. They both have very large expectations placed on them as well. As far as stats, they are a little different in GMac's favor although that is explained by slightly different offensive philosophy. Southlake always seemed to pass to set up the run. Allen is more like Bama and goes run first and pass second. Keep in mind that Allen's returning starting RB notched just over 2,000 yards last year. Allen does not need to go pass heavy so from a pure yards and TD's perspective they are different. However, Morris's accuracy and arm strength set him on the same level or higher.

And as to why he does not have more notice attached to him, I'm not sure. I do know that Allen will start the season at or near the top of the DFW rankings and that will be matched by a similar spot in the state rankings, and a high tier spot in the national rankings. And Allen is expected to contend for 5A title this year. So, if no one has heard of him yet, they probably will.

One other item, he seems to have picked up the intensity as he did not play basketball this past year and instead chose to go through the off season football program. He is the fourth one down in this article:

You are one of the few posters that knew of Morris and I am pretty sure that is mainly because of your hometown perspective. Just to reiterate I am very happy that Bama has a commitment from Morris. As I have said I expect him to do quite well at Bama.

I agree with you about the offensive differences between Southlake Carroll and Allen. I doubt that Morris will throw for as many TDs his senior season as McElroy did. I recently found out that Allen had a 2000 yard rusher last season, Jonathan Williams who is returning this season. Williams is a Missouri commit.

Please keep Tide Fans advised and updated on Morris this season. We would really appreciate the hometown up close and personal perspective.

Wake Forest's Jim Grobe has a reputation for identifying latent talent and taking it to the next level...especially with QB's. If Grobe and Saban like him...that's good enough for me! (As if my opinion mattered one iota!)

I know Morris is not who we all expected to sign a month ago, but I'm very happy we have his commitment. CNS obviously saw something in him to accept his commitment with guys like Lambert, Bauta, and Liggins still on the board.

As far as the McElroy comparisons go, I think their recruitments are very similar, but that's where it stops. Alec is more physically and athletically gifted IMO. The question is will he possess the same decision making and leadership that McElroy displayed?

Heard today, from a recruiting guru on the radio (for what it's worth), that Morris was move to the #3 QB (behind Winston and Kiel) after he camped at Bama. The coaches liked what they saw. SIAP
