Vandy and Georgia Fight

Richt responds to the incident. Link
“I saw it,” he said. “I just think tempers were hot. It was a very heated ballgame, a very close ballgame, very emotional ballgame for everybody. It was just a situation where I’m sure words were spoken and that kind of stuff.

Well I guess he handled that! lol

what makes you believe Richt is a Good Guy?

Yea I have a theory. :) I think Richt lets his coaching staff, players, and sometimes fans be the bad guy going so far as to encourage them to be ugly. Then when the heat is somewhat died down he can walk in to save the day, and get the moniker "Nice guy" thereby saving his job.

BTW I found it hilarious the ONE Vandy player in the middle of the Georgia crowd, just chillin' looking around. Hilarious.

I think it goes back a few years ago when a lot of UGA people were saying they'd rather have a strong upstanding man of faith, class, and morals like Richt than a win-at-all-costs oversigning mercenary like Saban.

And they're still saying this.

Vandy players are saying that UGA was jawing at them all night. No specifics except to say the sort of things you couldn't print in the newspaper. I expect that VU, unlike perhaps years past, was trying to give as good as they got. I think it says something generally when your team trash talks Vanderbilt, for heaven's sake.

UGA has already annointed themselves East Champion and probably didn't like that VU was a play away from beating them in the fourth quarter, either.

Agree with those who say there is liable to be an ugly incident at the UGA Barn game if someone doesn't get control.

ah, that makes more sense

Yeah, that's what it was. I get tired of hearing how great Richt is. Anyone who's seen my post on the guy knows how I feel.

Anyone who's morals & faith are that strong, don't allow those around them to falter the way Richt has. For someone who's such a good guy, the people he surrounds himself with sure to find it hard to stay out of trouble.

I keep hearing UGA fans complain about chop blocks. I saw a lot of the game (I got tired of us scoring like Tecmo Bowl on Ole Miss) and I did not notice any chop blocks. I saw cut blocks but no chop blocks. Cut blocks are legal. As far as the block on Geathers, that is nothing compared to what happened last year to Dareus at Arkansas and that didn't even draw a flag and he didn't throw a punch. What is surprising is that UGA fans think that Geathers was okay to punch someone on the football field. There is no room for that in college football.

I overheard a couple UGA fans talking at the gym last night and one of them was ranting about how Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Auburn have a "different set of rules than everybody else."

He was griping that an Alabama player threw a punch at a Florida player and didn't get flagged. I wanted to call him out on his fabricated little "story," but I just rolled my eyes and considered the source. I guess when you get dominated by a few teams over a few years, there's nothing left to do but blame the refs

That's what sad. The UGA fans act like it was ok that he hit the guy. Saw comments like "What was he supposed to do? Say 'nice hit, let's do it again'?" No, but what he can do is say I'll lay your butt out while going to get Rodgers.

that's not completely true - cut blocks are not supposed to be legal in the open field from what I remember and that was a bit of a clip also since he was coming from behind, and the play was over... No room for either action if you ask me - glad to see both suspended for a bit

Cut blocks do happen in the open field. DBs, LBs and lineman get cut on every play in open space including stretch runs, screens and draws. Remember Donte having his knee injury? The result of a cut block. A legal cut block and Donte never complained one bit about it. Was the block legal that the Vandy player threw? It was borderline and I would have thrown a flag as an official but I do not think it was done with intent.
