Who would you want to announce the Alabama/LSU game if it was left up to you?

My choice would be Keith Jackson and Frank Broyles. Keith always had such great respect for Alabama but he called the game evenly for both schools to draw in his audiences.

keith in his prime before he got to where verne lundquist is today. As cecil hurt said....note to verne...when the ofiicial points the other way it is a pick and not a reception. Verne has been prone to some gaffes but he and keith have classic voices. Over the two, i would take keith in their primes. But things change so we will have to move with the times.

I love this clip of CPB responding to that duo's question delivered via sideline reporter.

I'm going to the game, so it doesn't really matter to me who the announcers are. Having said that, I've always enjoyed Keith Jackson, grew up listening to his calls, but I was never much of a Broyles fan. He reminds me of Tim McCarver in baseball, he sounds very condescending and is always talking down to me, like he doesn't think I know anything about the game.

While Keith Jackson would be great, his time has come and gone so I'm going to pick someone from this day and time. I like Blackledge and Nessler.

Meh...from a partisan standpoint, I'd go with the combo of Eli & Snake. If I'm gonna listen to a guy that can't pronounce names, I'd rather it be Snake.

From a bi-partisan standpoint, I actually like the crew of Brad Nessler & Todd Blackledge. I wouldn't be too mad about hearing Ron Franklin either.

Keith, in his prime, of course, would be great. One of the best ever. He respected Alabama, but he was also complimentary of LSU and Charley McClendon who he felt was unfairly malilgned.

Regardless, Jackson and Broyle at their heigh would be great for this game.

They have so many guys calling the games today it's hard to choose.

Man, I miss Gottfried and Franklin.

I do like Nessler and Blackledge, but I'm not going to fuss about Gary and Verne.

Madden and Verne and Keith Jackson.... oh it would be so fun....
Verne, John did you see the way Vonta NighBower met him in the hole and WOOOOOWWWWW did he blow that play up....?

John: Yea Verne, what you just saw was how Hightower saw the run develop here (draws funny line on screen) he keys on the LSU running back (circles LSU RB) and he fills the hole and sheds this pulling lineman (circles pulling lineman) and, and, and,...i tell ya that Hightower kid he's pretty good he kind of reminds me of what i call a MANIMAL. he's that special kind of player you know, the Captain of the defense kind of reminds me of Dick Butkis with a little Mike Singeltary mixed in, but he just processes this so fasr and BOOM there he is with a crushing tackle and..and...um yeah he just blew that play up

Keith: Whoaaaa nelly, i don't know there about all that John, but i tell yea running on this Alabama Defense is like trying to climb a cactus you know....

Keith Jackson was the best. I enjoyed the late Curt Goudy also. He did the old AFL with Joe Willie first came to the Jets. NBC had the AFL and CBS had the NFL. Loved the Jet vs. Raiders with Curt calling the game. I forget the names as the years have gone on, but there have been some good ones that are as good as those today. Age just makes me forget all their names. Pat Summeral was good in his day also. Someone mentioned Tim McCarver. The day he retires, I will celebrate. I cannot stand that guy. Simply do not like him. Joe Buck does a decent job, but not McCarver, yuk.

I like all the older picks but from what we have today, I like Danielson, just wish they had someone to go with him maybe they could hire Ron Franklin?

I don't know if Ron would come back, even to a different network. He's 69 years old. I know him personally and my wife knows him much better, having gone to HS with him in Oxford. He's a great guy and the remarks he made, in both instances, are not typical of him, even if he became provoked. Unfortunately, he trespassed into an area which has become a minefield...

I know he is not strictly football but I like Bob Costas' commentaries. He always seems to have done his homework - especially in regard to players' names and how to pronounce them. I also enjoy Herbstreit as well.
