When you figure out after two attempts that you can't kick a field goal, do you not change your approach?

Between the 25-30, you go for it. Anything longer than 30 yds, you punt? I am so disgusted over this. Yes, I know penalties. Yes, I know turnovers. Those are a 'wash' because lsu had them as well. But at some point, you MUST make the tough decision to take the game out of the hands of your FG kickers. And letting Maze be the return man on a punt when he had a bad wheel? Horrible decisions, IMO.

12 points left on the field. Dress it up however we want, say their defense got us; say Jefferson got us; say whatever, but 12 points left on the field is the starting point.

Just disgusted and so sad for our defense.

Yep... interesting stat is that Bama is 3-3 after a bye week the last 6 years, and all 3 losses are to LSU.

The 50 yrd attempt called for to me was a bad decision by our coaches. Everyone in my living room and probably 3/4 of the people in that stadium knew Foster did not have the accuracy or leg to make that kick and the right call in this kind of game was to pooch punt. That being said, I DO think some of the other misses were failure to execute and therefore yes, cost us the game.

I don't remember the last time I saw so many interesting plays called. I mean seriously those FG attempts. That trick play Maze threw when we were running it down their throat?

I am left shaking my head as to how we lost this game just like I was last year against Auburn.

I can get over this loss tonight-- LSU outplayed us when it counted and we lost to a better team. I will NEVER get over last year's game with the barn and our total collapse that came with it.

God wanted barn to win that game... That is the only explanation I've been able to accept when I see a football bounce down the sideline that far and stay in-bounds. Tonight Bama lost to a team that made plays when they mattered.

This loss was a result of:

- Bad coaching (missed long FGs instead of punts/field position, getting too cute in the red zone, playing for OT instead of using TOs to try to win, putting a one-legged punt returner on the field)

- Sub-championship-level kicking game

- Bad execution (dropped passes, poorly thrown balls, missed blocks, penalties)

- Not finishing (we seemed to give up late in the game - seemed like our players were playing uninspired late in the 4th and in OT)

- Bad officiating (the interception that wasn't, Mattheu's assault only called a hold resulting in the perp still on the field while the vic was gone for the game)

It's a miracle that we kept it as close as we did. Tonight, LSU was the better team, not because they beat us but because, unlike us, they didn't beat themselves. It hurts, but my hat's off to them. They deserved the win and we deserved the loss. We are not the best team in the country.

well their special teams were better. which made them the better overall team
you mean they made FGs within their FG kicker's range ??? you mean the great punter who shank the one at midfield??

our punter wasn't bad tonight when we needed his service which was rare. our FGs was the most horrendous I have seen at Bama in a looongg time!! that one aspect was what kill us. if we made just one, we win. period.

Ahem.... we kept it close because we have an outstanding defense. you sound like Bama was bad on both sides of the ball.

Are you reading my blog? :)

My thoughts exactly.
Me too. I'm really disapointed with the play calling tonight. Defense played thier hearts out, but play calling on offense was terrible.
I just hope the players don't have a big let down and give up on the season after this, and finish off a good season.
