Does a Georgia win knock us out of the BCS completely?

If I remember correctly, the BCS will only allow up to 2 teams per conference. The SEC champion receives an automatic berth. I think voters would be reluctant to put us ahead of LSU due to the head-to-head loss. If this is correct, I think we need the tigers to win the SEC, or to drop below us in the BCS with a loss or we may be looking at a non-BCS bowl which I believe is very unjust.

Nope, there's a provision in the BCS for three teams from a conference to go - if the SEC Champion isn't #1 or #2 and those two spots are held by SEC teams.

IOW, if UGA wins, they likely go to the Sugar Bowl. LSU would not likely drop past #2 (might even stay @ #1), we'd either stay @ 2 or move up, so you'd still end up with Bama / LSU @ #1 & 2, playing in the BCSCG.

An UGA win is the only way we can have three teams in BCS games.

Only two teams per conference unless the #1 and #2 teams are not the conference winner. Then there can be 3 BCS teams in one conference. Since an LSU loss should drop LSU to #2 and move us up to #1, we're still in the NC game.

I think Bama - LSU is a lock unless OK St beats OK very badly this weekend.

Great news. Thanks for the response.

NOTHING will prevent LSU and Alabama from playing for the BCS title ... unless there's an asteroid or comet on the horizon :)

As a Georgia fan, I will say this: if we should upset LSU, well, that's an upset, and doesn't mean that we're better than LSU. LSU almost certainly would beat us 8 or 9 of 10 times. So if we get that one game, I don't think that should keep either LSU or Alabama out of the title game. The whole point of the BCS is to get the best 2 teams in the country together in the title game, and this year, that's Alabama and LSU.

There is a provision in the BCS that says that if the 1-2 teams in the BCS poll are not conference champions, then a conference can have 3 teams. They probably sat around and said, "OK, what will NEVER happen?" With a Georgia upset, it could.

I wouldn't say nothing, but I do think it would be very unlikely that they don't play each other for it.

I'm wondering if OSU beats OU, would it better for us for LSU to win or to lose? If they lost, we would probably go up in the BCS by a point or two and have about the same amount of points as LSU which would put us further from OSU's point total. If LSU and OSU win, I can see OSU gaining more ground on us, but I just don't know what to think about the voters. I'd like to believe that they would still keep us at #2, but I almost feel naive when I think that.

Well Gary D was running his mouth on 790 The Zone here in ATL this morning. He thinks if UGA wins then no Alabama for BCSCG.

Did the SEC cancel their contract with CBS all of the sudden and I didn't hear about it? Every time I've heard Gary D this week he's whining about one or two teams that aren't conference champs playing for a national championship. Last I heard he was calling the end of the Iron Bowl saying LSU and Alabama are the two best teams in college football and should play for it. Guess something changed between now and then.:conf3:

If Georgia wins, there could be voter backlash against having the title game between two teams that did not win their conference and we'd be the odd man out.

I don't see it happening either but if it does it will be the biggest injustice since 1966...
