Yeah, I haven't heard any details yet, but I'm sure Brad and the Orrison clan will have it built back better than ever. It won't be the same, obviously, but they've always been committed to keeping it about the bbq, the music and the family fun so all will be well eventually.

Mash: Unmitigated disaster.

The BBQ was good, but the atmosphere of this joint was unique.

This is like losing Judge Roy Bean's in Fairhope some years ago.

Tragic, tragic, tragic.
I guess you spent more time at The Shed than I did (I never went to the one in OS, only the one in Mobile), and you are dead on - BBQ was OK, IMO (it all tasted the same was my only complaint) and sides were very good, but the atmosphere was special.
Bean's was special....I spent many, many hours and many, many dollars in that place; one of my good friends used to shuck oysters there, and at 10 cents each I would frequently load up.
One night...Kent, Raoul and Robert did a version of "24 Hours" I'll never forget.
Hate it when places like that close (or get destroyed in a disaster)....it was like TP's shutting down. Lord, the memories....

The bbq at The Shed is very good, IMO. Not the best I've ever had - I get that at home - but very good. The potato salad was what I loved, as far as their food. Give me a pulled pork sammich and a side of potato salad, a live band on the stage and the kids dancing around down front, and that makes for a happy Staci. :)

What I really like about the place is how Brad just willed it into existence. He took a good idea, got a good recipe, and combined it with a whole lot of hard work and now he's got five locations and lots of awards and national attention. Despite that attention, he's just a down home, friendly, simple sort of guy and we appreciate that around here.

Yeah... never been but seen it featured on The Travel Channel before. The owner and the family all seemed very friendly.

I loved it too. Their potato salad was as close as any potato salad has come to usurping my mom's recipe as my favorite (which says a lot about my opinion of it). I ate it many times when I was on business trips down to the MS coast. (I ate there at least once on every trip down there from 2007 thru 2011...so once every couple of months for 4 years). My "Eat Shed!" T-shirt has gotten me many funny looks across the eastern US (as well as a lot of chuckles once people realize it's not obscene). Hate to see this happened, but they'll be back.

Well, they've had folks from the community pouring in all day long helping to start cleaning up and dropping off donations of "junk" as Brad & Brooke like to call it. They've already got people dropping off aluminum siding, wood, tools, and old license plates, etc. That's how the old one was built, so they intend to rebuilt it that way again.

They managed to find some que that wasn't damaged, and they've been feeding the folks who've dropped by to help clean up or donate supplies all day. Someone even donated a port-a-potty to help the folks out on site.

So, before the sun even sets today, The Shed already has a plan of action and an entire community at its side. It'll never be quite the same, but it'll be as close as possible. In ten years, they've had about five feet of water from Katrina and now a total loss from a fire, but you can't keep those Shed-heds down!

I thought the BBQ there was decent, but not awesome. (As others have said here) Cool setting though.

The Shed branch up here in H'burg was even less awesome imo. (Very similar to when Dreamland branched out & the quality dropped imo.) The one up here couldn't decide whether to be a family BBQ joint, a student bar, or a nighclub w/ live music. Which is likely why it's no longer here...

I wish them well in the rebuild! The one in O.S. was a fun place to go.

Well, four days after the fire that burned The Shed to the ground, volunteers have brought in enough donations of wood, metal, kitchen supplies, picnic tables, manpower, etc and they're up and feeding customers once again. They've passed inspection from the health department and they're serving out of their "rolling joint" mobile bbq van. There will be live music tonight on the floating dock on the bayou.

Hard to keep the Shed Heads down.
