Re: Alabama's BCS Football Trophy Shattered

I see the collective skin is as thin as ever.

Yeah, not so much in this situation. A lot of the times I would agree ("everybody hates us, none of the media want us to win, etc"), but there's nothing funny about the instant a young man lost all-but-guaranteed millions of dollars due to a horrific injury.

And I'm not suggesting anyone should laugh, but the level of QQ being made over a background image is true to stereotype, sadly.

Re: Alabama's BCS Football Trophy Shattered

Prothro's one of those former players that many of us in the fanbase see as a "hands off" kind of guy. We can take the jokes about our program, ourselves, our coaches, our school, our state and even most of our players, but there are some folks you just don't touch in a ridiculing or "poking fun at" way.

Prothro is one of them.
Thanks for the clarification. But if Alabama fans love him so much, why did I read somewhere that he was working as a bank teller? Can't your boosters find something better for him?

Well I guess in some places boosters may just give you piles money and keep you up for life for being a beloved school athlete. In this situation he was able to use his good name to get a job with a local bank. He's started as a teller, which everyone who doesn't have financial experience does in a bank. Then he will move up the line through the system into a nice cushy position one day where he can really use his name. Also, I know at one point he wasn't willing to commit to some other offers because he was keeping a possible career in coaching open.

BTW, why is it that you are here? Can't you find something better for yourself to do? :)

That exact question has been discussed and debated ad nauseum on this board. Your tone is condescending, but the question is valid. We all feel like he should be given every possible opportunity to get into coaching. But, no one knows how good of a coach he will be, and stepping straight into an assistant's position on the Alabama staff, with basically no experience, and at this point in the program's success would be a stretch for anyone.

We do appreciate rival fans on this board, but you chose a touchy subject - to say the least.

Were it not completely intentional, then backed by his attitude of 'get over it', I'd not care. But he intentionally chose a horrific injury to make fun of something. I know it's an overused term, but that's truly classless.

Just to change the tone a bit, I found a better one...

Wow.

Just, wow. You won't win friends on this board by posing questions like that.

We have a B10 OSU pot stirrer on here. I guess he trolled on here to see what a championship fan base does since the OSU boards have not smelled one in quite some time.

Didn't mean for it to sound condescending (as was suggested earlier in the thread). But it does seem like a legitimate question given how upset Alabama fans seem to be about his injury. I didn't really think about it being an entry level job, though.

Not trying to make enemies, but I am not an Alabama fan, per se (only through my late father). Hopefully I can get a feel for the "hot" issues and avoid them.

LOL - Sorry - found this board when searching for Petrino news.

Just remember this is our sandbox. Tread lightly.
