Unintended consequences: When will the whale be jumped? Higher taxes and curtailment of smoking venues results in less time for fewer smokers to participate in the terrible habit. Thus, less tax revenue. That said, "WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN???"

No... I don't smoke, and I don't plan on starting... but this should be a decision left up to each individual business owner. No one forces a person to frequent an establishment that allows smoking.

Yes, you should be able to go into any public establishment without suffering unnecessary harm from others.

Should be left up to the business owner. Let the customers decide if they'll frequent that establishment or not.

I have lived in two towns that instituted smoking bans after I first got there. In both, people whined like hell and said it would kill business. Within 3 months of the ban people were talking about how much more fun it was to go to bars and not absolutely reek of smoke afterwards. Even the smokers said this. It is one of the rare good ideas the gov has (banning 3 wheelers being the other good idea they have ever had).

No one forces a person to frequent an establishment that allows smoking.

Wasn't that long ago when us non smokers had no choice because smoking was allowed almost everywhere, I'm glad the tables are turning and I hope it is banned everywhere one day. If you want to kill yourself, do it in your own home. Yes, no one is forced to frequent a place that allows smoking but, if you are somewhere in public and someone starts smoking in your vicinity you are forced to inhale their deadly habit. Oh, I'm sure the smokers would said the non smoker could just leave or move but, I say the smoker should be the one forced to leave or put the stupid thing out!

Wasn't that long ago when us non smokers had no choice because smoking was allowed almost everywhere, I'm glad the tables are turning and I hope it is banned everywhere one day. If you want to kill yourself, do it in your own home. Yes, no one is forced to frequent a place that allows smoking but, if you are somewhere in public and someone starts smoking in your vicinity you are forced to inhale their deadly habit. Oh, I'm sure the smokers would said the non smoker could just leave or move but, I say the smoker should be the one forced to leave or put the stupid thing out!

I agree with this. There are and will be non-smoking bars, go to one of them. It's should be the owners choice, not the governments.

Everyone is forced to assume multiple risks to health and safety by simply being in public... smoking is just one of them. I do always get a kick out of those pushing for the health reasons of banning smoking in a bar when they completely gloss over a bar's prime objective is to promote an unhealthy habit.

This carries some logic. I think all bad habits should be legally baned from public places except for the ones I have.
