Re: 2013 DE Demarcus Walker Update
Now announcing Aug 24th. Something to do with being on TV to do so.

ESPNU's recruiting coverage begins then. Now announcing Aug 24th. Something to do with being on TV to do so.
IIRC, this is now the third time Walker has pushed back his announcement. Now announcing Aug 24th. Something to do with being on TV to do so.
I recall he was going to announce in May I think and changed it to Aug 3rd. Then said he may not commit on Aug 3rd and will see. Then decided to go ahead and announce on Aug 3rd. Aug 24th has to do with ESPNu. They wanted him to do it on their show which would be Aug 24th/ So only twice that I know of and one is because of TV not because he is not ready. Could be though and we iwll see.IIRC, this is now the third time Walker has pushed back his announcement.
Hopefully he signs with 'Bama, but with three delays already I wouldn't be surprised to see this one pushed back again with a decision closer to NSD.
I'm familiar with our roster and their rankings, two of the guys you mentioned don't even plan DE. By striking out I mean guys have signed with other schools. My original point was we haven't had a elite/dominant DE since dareus left. Walker would be the highest nationally ranked DE that I remember is signing. No part of my post was questioning our talent level at DE or their potential. When you say Bama has "struck out," do you mean not signing top DEs or do you mean the guys haven't lived up to the hype? I wouldn't say Bama hasn't signed top talent; take a look at the list I posted earlier or the one below. Many of the guys redshirted or played very little, which is what is happening to the majority of Bama's freshmen.
Alfy Hill had issues. That's a 4* (and the #8 SDE according to Rivals) off the team.
Adrian Hubbard (4* and #10 WDE) redshirted and then played some last year. He was behind some very good players.
Wilson Love is entering his RS Sophomore year. Since he was a 3* and #42 SDE, he didn't have the hype the others had.
Quinton Dial played a big role last season after resigning after JUCO. I expect him to do big things this season. Rivals lists him as a 4* but does not give a national ranking.
Dickson signed as a 4* and #4 WDE and put up some good minutes and numbers for a true freshman.
Pagan (4* and #4 SDE) got some playing time last season, too.
Pettway (4* and #13 SDE redshirted.

so we havent had an elite de in a year? Jessie Williams disagrees.
also lots of articles up about DW's visit to UF on scout rivals and 24/7. no subscription here. anyone want to enlighten us on his trip to UF and if he made any updates. Seems that UF put the full court press on.
Walker said on Scout he will make his announcement on August 24th. He said he already knows where he will go. Between Alabama and Florida. Just my two cents, seems like it's leaning more towards Florida since he was just there and had a good visit. Hopefully it will be Bama though. Oh one more thing; he said he visited the florida campus more than any other.so we havent had an elite de in a year? Jessie Williams disagrees.

I think we lead for him! JMHOFrom Gators 247 site Free Info
-Florida head coach Will Muschamp spent a hunk of time at the camp chatting with four-star defensive end DeMarcus Walker (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood) who will make his decision in late August. The Gators and Alabama are the two teams to beat at present and many insiders think the Tide is the team to beat. We aren’t sure that family won’t play a factor in this, though, thus causing him to stay closer to home.
They believe he is leaning to UA. Also from their paid article they said Walker did not participate and when the players got on the field he went and sat by himself on the endzone wall. Later CWM came down to chat. He also said the visit did not have an impact on his decision. He had more positive quotes in the Gator article for UA than UF from what I read.
Walker also had a few other comments. UF got a verbal from another 4* DE and Walker said he did not care who he had to compete against wherever he pick cause he would beat them out of a spot.
He also said the process was draining and he would commit in late august but that would not mean he will not change his mind.
he's only MOSTLY committing.[/B]So he's not really committing, right?
Somewhat.he's only MOSTLY committing.
No offense to Jesse but I don't think he has made near the amount of impact plays that Marcel had at this point in his career. This year with him going to nose tackle he most likely won't be either. Marcel Dareus gave us a pass rush threat from the end position that I don't think we have had before or since he left.so we havent had an elite de in a year? Jessie Williams disagrees.

What about when Upshaw or Hightower put their hand on the ground? And just because Jesse didn't make "impact plays" doesn't mean he isn't elite. Early projections for the 2013 draft have Jesse in the top 2 rounds. Pretty elite to me.No offense to Jesse but I don't think he has made near the amount of impact plays that Marcel had at this point in his career. Considering Jessie is a JUCO, at this point in MD's career he was a backup with a lot of potential. After one year on the field Jessie made a huge impact, not in the stat line but in the LB's stat line. Purpose of our Dline is to occupy the oline and stop the run, he did that well.No offense to Jesse but I don't think he has made near the amount of impact plays that Marcel had at this point in his career.
