More barn news - NCAA investigating recruitment of Reuben Foster

National signing day is six months away. Foster hasn't signed a NLI and hasn't enrolled in any college.

I find it odd that the NCAA would be probing a recruitment before the recruitment is even over.

And if this is the same group of investigators that were in Memphis last week, it pretty much tells you that they have gotten all the info they're going to in that cesspool.

Why do think it's odd ?

They are more interested in his high school transfer.

I've been thinking the exact same thing. I've never heard of it before. They've always let the recruitment go to the finish. Theoretically, he could change his mind yet one more time and add "SUX" below the tat...

Do you think CNS would take him after everything that's come out? Wasn't he the one that sniffed out the situation and forced the Barn to pull the trigger ahead of schedule?

So...as i was looking on this site there was a disturbing headline about Alabama. I don't know if that site is reputable or not but think that if it's nothing more than a rumor mill, I'd prefer to see this thread go away.

Alabama accused of encouraging recruit to transfer to high school that would “take care of him”

It could be that the Investigation in Memphis uncovered the means by which auburn conducts it’s business. Sometimes when you are trying to find out the truth, you have to ask certain questions in a certain way. Me thinks that Memphis info has shown them what questions to ask and how to ask them……..

It's odd in a way, but in a way it isn't. Must be some very damning facts coming out about this for them to be on the attack now.

There is NO good way the barners at API can spin this. First $cam, now Jovon and Rueben. The towel waver will bury the barn.

Thats a gross exageration of what actually happened from all reports. Also it is not an NCAA violation to suggest a new school to a player if they are looking to transfer.

Heh...

Well, the way I see it is this--either the NCAA is doing Auburn a huge favor by heading off a major recruiting scandal before it fully ripens

OR

The NCAA already has the goods and now they're wrapping up the necessary loose ends by interviewing the interested parties.

Another barn player's transcripts are in question. JaQuay Williams, who is from Georgia, was taking an online class at Faith Academy in Mobile, AL ? Huh ? Does that make any sense to anyone ? It sure dosen't to me.

if youre taking online classes you can take them from anywhere no matter where the school that hosts them is located since it's an online class.

The NCAA can be weird about online classes. sometimes they clear them only to change their minds after the kid has already enrolled and been on campus for 3 months.

I don't think the Faith Academy was the one in Mobile. There are quite a few Faith Academies with an hour and half from where he lives now. I don't think the barn is even THAT stupid to get him to sign up for an online class for a school that is well over 5 hours away if not more.

They are really grasping at straws. Like you said Poke there is NOTHING wrong with helping get a kid an education that would for sure get him into college. I'm sure if Paige jumped ship to another school Coach Pruitt would still feel good enough that he helped the kid get eligible. I feel proud that this is all they can point their finger at us about.

Re: NCAA Meeting With Reuben Foster

I guess maybe they could investigate this to get ahead of the game when and if he signs with Auburn (or whomever). I would think until he signs there is absolutely nothing the NCAA can do. I mean, suppose a booster paid for his family to move, or heck, even just flat out gave them spending money. That is not illegal. If he for some reason never signed with a college then what exactly could the NCAA do.

I'm glad to hear that! I was mainly reacting to how it was worded...as if they were suggesting someone at that new school would "help" by commiting academic fraud.

Re: NCAA Meeting With Reuben Foster

If they get into trouble over this Memphis high school foolishness after they skated on Cam it'll be like getting a speeding ticket on the way home from the bank holdup. But they are very accomplished cover up artists over in Lee County. My guess is, as usual, they get away with it.

Re: NCAA Meeting With Reuben Foster

NCAA:
There are around 50 people on the enforcement staff with 38 investigators. Once the staff receives credible information that a potential major violation occurred, an investigation begins with interviews both on and off campus.

In addition to interviews, enforcement representatives obtain significant supporting documentation, such as recruiting logs, phone records, compliance files, academic records, e-mails, bank statements and credit card receipts.

However, the NCAA does not have subpoena power and cannot compel those outside of its jurisdiction (parents of student-athletes or prospects, agents, high school personnel) to cooperate in the investigative process. The NCAA cannot require individuals to turn over documents through discovery.
