They really are in a danged-if-you-do type situation.

If they keep Chiznit:
-He effectively becomes a lame-duck coach, with everyone in the country knowing thats its make or break.
-Recruiting suffers because no recruit or parent in their right mind would send a kid to a school to play for a one and done coach.
-More than likely continued off-field issues because of lack of respect from the players.
-At best, they are still looking at a 6-6 campaign in 2013, which will cost chiz his job because of the realization that he truly is a 5-19 coach.

If they fire him-
-They will face media onslaught for firing a coach who won a nat championship a mere two seasons ago.
- They will again have troule finding a coach worth his salt as no good coach will want to come there. Unrealistic expectations, having to face Saban. Having to agree to recruit dirty to try to compete.
-A less-than homerun coach will again divide the fan base, which will put them behind the 8-ball in recruiting and all other aspects of trying to stay competitive.
-They will face at least another 2 year set back in trying to rebuild to mediocrity

Saban said he wanted to dominate the cross state rival 365 days a year. He has done it.

And, the problem isn't so much CheezeWhiz but the skeleton crew of assistants he has assembled. Sure Cheeze sucks as a coach, but when you have scumbags like Trooper bringing down the program with his dirty recruiting and lack of discipline, you have a problem. Also compounding the situation is TT likely knows all the dirty secrets so if you fire him, you risk him blowing the whistle. So, what does Pat Dye do? Keeps them all and hopes they can turn it around next year. Poor Pat Dye. Bwahahahaha.

It's so nice that instead of being 4-2 or 3-3 right now and worried about losing to auburn again (like we would have been pre-saban) that we're 6-0 and on a completely different level than auburn. Our biggest obstacle this season is going to be a pre-season #1 LSU or a top ten SEC East team in the SECCG. Beating auburn worse than we did in '08 is simply an after thought to the 14-0 season we very likely could experience.

The buyout for the entire staff is 10 million bucks. Trooper Taylor himself has a 1 million dollar buyout. With his rep I don't think trooper will be snapped up by anyone so he may be the straw that breaks the cow's back.

One of the best posts on TF when Saban was hired was a reference to what you see and hear from other schools was FEAR. I loved it! It was so true...you could smell the fear and hear it in their voices and now we are seeing what that FEAR has done to so many other teams. It's glorious, I tell ya, glorious!

They haven't earned a SECOND win yet!! Baby steps!! LOL
I think they go 3-9 at best...

I dont think they beat Vandy this week...Vandy has played pretty good ball this season, even if their record doesnt show it.
Auburns best bet for wins this season are New Mexico State (almost a lock...) and Alabama A&M ( whihc will test them...)

Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M...go ahead and write them down as losses for them.

Doug Barfield

After the Arkansas game, some folks were all about comparing this year to Coach Doug Barfield's years.
After being blown out by Ole Miss yesterday we are now 1-5. No Barfield team ever opened 1-5. In his worst six game start, Barfield was 2-4, and those two wins were SEC games.
We've had more than enough Doug Barfield bashing.
We are now officially Earl Brown bad.
Re: Doug Barfield

If chizic is our coach next year we owe barfield an apology.
Re: Doug Barfield

Is Barfield available?

I am not sure he will be gone from Auburn, but it appears inevitable. I will always think of him as an Auburn man. The ugly comments some have made are out of sheer frustration aimed at a good man that I believe has tried his very best. I believe without his faith and help from a higher power, we would never have won the NC. The higher power was not JJ!

Belle, you are having way too much fun with this-----me, too.
I think one of the issues with their offense currently is that their big running back option didn't make it to school. In addition to the NCAA problems, trying to run this style (Pat Dye style) with 190 lb tailbacks is causing issues.
Not to laugh at injuries, cause I think this kid, from everything I've heard around Memphis, is a pretty good kid---but Jordan Wilkins at St. Benedict, who committed very early to Auburn and is the only true tailback they have committed ---and is the next big tailback they were counting on----well, here is the story-----

You know things are a disaster when their short list of possible replacements includes both Tommy AND Terry Bowden. Not only would they be okay with trying another Bowden, they are even willing to give tater tot another chance! Oh, this is just too funny!

I have been preached to by my barner friends about morals, character and football. It has all changed now to, this is not church hire Petrina. lol
Oh, man, I hope you called him "Petrina" on purpose - that is classic! :D

If we only win 8-9 (not my goal) games a years with a high graduation rate and young men that you would be happy to have come into your home – then I can live with that. I would like to beat Alabama and Georgia regularly and win some SEC and National championships but I don’t care to do it at a cost that downgrades AU. I hope we never take the attitude that so many fans of the school across the state that we MUST WIN AT ANY COST. Win and lose with class and never have the win at all cost fans that embarrass our school like we see regularly from another school in this state
Where do they get this stuff? :conf2:
They are zealots, and there is no convincing them of anything. They believe what the want to believe, regardless of facts and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary. High graduation rate and respectful young men is just beyond laughable.

From the article...
Wilkins broke the tibula and tore a ligament in his right leg, according to a tweet from his mother, Angie Wilkins. Jordan Wilkins is expected to have surgery on Tuesday, according to his mother.
What the heck is a tibula?

Clicking on this thread the past 2 weeks or so has been consistent entertainment. I almost feel like I need to wait until I can make some popcorn before opening the thread back up. Great times! My only sadness is that it's looking more and more like Chizik gets canned. Watching AU football the past 1.5 years has been my version of a favorite reality TV show. Uncomfortable, sad, painful to watch... and yet utterly hilarious at the same time.

"Auburn sacrificed everything for a single year of success; becoming college football’s answer to the Florida Marlins. The following year, their bitter rival, the Alabama Crimson Tide, the team whose title the year before drove them to mortgage everything, was back on top, something Auburn fans would have done anything to prevent. The Crimson Tide may win it all again, but Auburn can no longer do anything to prevent that. Auburn fans would want nothing more that prevent that, but the team with the best chance to knock Alabama off isn’t Auburn, it’s Oregon, and that’s an opportunity Auburn would do anything to have."

Ouch!! that's going to leave a mark.. :)

Mark my words. The 2012 Auburn football season is going to be a first class cluster.

I know they are somewhere just north of 70 scholarship players for 2012. I have a good sense that of that number, they will be able to count on somewhere around 65. Seven guys have been run off or quit. Another two might not make it.

Of the skill players they signed in 2012, they might get two or three on the field. Of the senior leadership they expected this season... well, I don't want to get ugly.

In 2010, I picked Auburn as my Dark Horse candidate to win the SEC, so I'm not just homering.

From what I've seen in the offseason, during spring practice and fall camp...

Coach 5-19 is back in his toothless glory.

I've been meaning to acknowledge the man, the prophet, the wizard with the crystal ball, GulfCoastTider. Ok, tell us, you got a time machine, came back from the future or something? But however the means, man you nailed this outcome back in August. Impressive...
