News Article: Utah HS FB Coach Suspends Entire Team

I don't even think that he did this for the team - I think that he did it for the community.

Then those members of the community on the team should all get equal playing time. The good players will help the bad players get better, kinda of the same logic for behavior.

The link I posted. The coach says he doesn't believed it involved many players and no player was proved guilty yet. I thought in the U.S. one needed proof.

Sorry, I was not clear. Your posts are all based on the same premise - that a player feels victimized by this action. If all of the players support the suspension, your arguments are meaningless. Everything that I have read indicates that not only the players, but the entire community supports the action.

You are reacting to a problem that doesn't exist.

It doesn't matter if they feel they are a victim or not, they are being take advantage of. I just love the its all for the team except when it comes to PT.

Read the actual letter to the team. It's linked at the bottom. They are not missing a game. They are doing community service, study hall, and character development in lieu of practice. The kids that show up and do all the things asked of them will get their jerseys back. Pretty awesome stand to take, if you ask me.

Yep - he took away their jerseys "symbolically" until they earn them back.

I see - you work for the NAACP, right? Some organization like that? Am I close? ;)

Of course not. I understand where you are coming from though. Lets let a few kids mess up, have the good kids help them clean up the school. Everything is for the team unless you want playing time. Sorry kid you didn't get to practice this week, another kid might have said something on the internet. Am I close? :)

You want this to be about something that it is not. Not sure why, but it has nothing to do with this story, does it?

I wonder if some on this thread actually read the article or not. Every player on that team had an opportunity to earn his jersey back beginning 7 am the next morning. I promise you the ones who cared about that team - especially the ones who supposedly did nothing wrong - were there early. A team - a real team - is built on self-sacrifice, not self-assertion.

I wholly support this coach on this. He did the right thing. Sometimes the just have to suffer with the unjust. It also makes them make sure the unjust keep their act clean. I and my whole football team received punishment running, because a player decided to throw a tantrum on the sideline and throw his helmet. I assure you, we got the game tape, found out who threw the helmet, and they were given a rundown of what would happen if it ever happened again. Lesson was learned.

This applies to playing time as well?
